Subway moves into downtown

A new Subway restaurant has leased space at Salem Avenue and South Jefferson Street in downtown Roanoke, in a building that has been occupied by a pawn shop and later a florist shop.

The restaurant will be owned directly by the Subway chain rather than by a franchisee. There are a half-dozen other Subway restaurants in the Roanoke Valley.

William D. Poe of Waldvogel, Poe and Cronk Real Estate Group Inc. said construction will begin immediately and the restaurant will open about April 1.
