Good Samaritan Hospice, an in-home program for patients with life-limiting illnesses in the Roanoke Valley, is seeking volunteers to provide practical and emotional support for patients and their families.
This support includes running errands, staying with a patient a few hours to relieve the care giver, visiting patients and providing transportation to medical appointments.
A 23-hour training program will begin Jan. 23.

Free rides, towing offered over holidays
Roanoke residents who have consumed alcoholic beverages during the holidays can keep off the roads and still get home just by making a phone call.
Towing Operators Working to Eliminate Drunk Driving, or T.O.W.E.D., will be available 24 hours through Sunday to tow for free the vehicles of impaired drivers and give them a ride home.

Roanoker presented with art award
Diane Fraser Patton of Roanoke was recently presented The Grumbacher Art Award for outstanding achievement in watercolors for her painting titled "Be There."
Grumbacher Co. honors artists working with oil colors, acrylic colors, watercolors, pastels, calligraphy, sculpture and photography.
A member of the League of Roanoke Artists, Patton won a selection of Grumbacher artists' materials and a commemorative medal.
