Because of a reporter's error, the Atlantic Coast Conference's record in the Independence Bowl football game was incorrect in Wednesday's editions. The ACC improved its record to 1-1-1 with Wake Forest's 39-35 victory over Oregon in 1992.

Because of an editor's error, an answer in the ``How Sophisticated Are You?'' quiz in Monday's Extra section was incorrect. The answer to the question, ``In what sport does one refer to `chukkers?''' should have been polo.

Clarification

Roanoke's teachers have never been given a one-hour, off-premises lunch break - only a 25-minute break at their schools. Mercedes James, president of the Roanoke Education Association, said her comment about a one-hour lunch in a story Wednesday referred to top-level administrators who sometimes leave their offices for lunch.
