GRANDDAUGHTER OF ROBERT E. LEE DIES IN UPPERVILLE

Mary Custis Lee deButts, granddaughter of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, has died after a lengthy illness. She was 94.

DeButts, president of the Robert E. Lee Memorial Association from 1965 to 1967, died Monday at her home in Upperville in Fauquier County. She was buried Thursday.

She was the Lee family representative on the Lee Memorial Association board from 1958 to 1982, when she became an honorary director. The association oversees and raises funds to operate Stratford Hall, Lee's birthplace in Westmoreland County.
