RONQUILLO LEADS CELTICS TO WIN OVER PATRICK HENRY

Elaine Ronquillo scored a game-high 18 points to lead Roanoke Catholic to a 47-44 victory over Patrick Henry in the Roanoke Valley Invitational at Roanoke Valley Christian on Friday.

Jean Kent had 13 points for PH, which led 24-19 at the half but scored only six points in the third period. The Patriots had a chance to tie, but Renea Hill missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Elizabeth Thompson and LaWanda Robey combined for 17 third-quarter points as the Pioneers outscored the Eagles 23-0 in the period en route to a victory in the Roanoke Valley Invitational.

The loss was the first of the season for RVC, which committed 10 turnovers against Heritage's 1-3-1 half-court press in the third period.

The Pioneers (4-3) will play Roanoke Catholic at 1 p.m. today, and Roanoke Valley Christian (6-1) will face Patrick Henry at 3 p.m.

The Highlanders built a 14-point lead in the first quarter and pulled away in the third for a Pioneer District victory over the Rams.

Josh Williamson scored nine of his 13 points in the first quarter for Glenvar (5-1, 1-0), which used pressure defense to go up 23-9. Corey Willis scored 12 of his 16 points in the third as the Highlanders widened their advantage to 24 points, 64-40.

Jason Darnall led Glenvar with 17 points.

T.J. Honaker scored 13 points and Bryan Werner added 12 for Highland.
