EAGLES DROP PATRIOTS 44-43 IN TOURNAMENT

Gina Guthrie sank two of three free throws in the final minute and scored 23 points as Roanoke Valley Christian edged Patrick Henry 44-43 in the Roanoke Valley Invitational girls' high school basketball tournament.

The Eagles (7-1) led 20-12 at halftime and increased their edge to 10 before the Patriots rallied midway through the fourth quarter.

Artice Webb scored seven of her 13 points in the last period for PH, but the combination of an Ashley Rakes three-point play and Guthrie's free throws sealed the victory for Roanoke Valley Christian.

Erin Rutherford led PH with 12 points.
