BASKETBALL POLL RANKS TECH NO. 25

The Virginia Tech men's basketball team was ranked in a national poll Monday for the first time since the 1985-86 season.

The Hokies, off to a 10-1 start for the second consecutive season, were ranked No.25 in the USA Today-CNN Coaches' Poll. In the Associated Press poll, the Hokies still were 10 positions out of the Top 25, ranking 35th in the poll of media members. Tech meets the No.34 team in the AP poll, Metro Conference rival Tulane, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in New Orleans.

In the 1985-86 season, Tech was ranked in the AP Top 20 for 10 consecutive weeks, peaking at No.15.

Tech has beaten one ranked opponent this season - Nebraska, which is No.19 in the AP poll.
