GLENVAR TOPPLES PARRY MCCLUER

Corey Willis hit a 3-pointer to give Glenvar the lead for good in overtime Tuesday, and the Highlanders knocked off Parry McCluer 58-50 in the Pioneer District.

The game was sent into overtime following a controversial call at the buzzer in regulation.

Glenvar (6-1 overall, 2-0 Pioneer) trailed 47-45 with 1 second to play but had the ball for an inbounds play. Matt Atkinson lobbed a long pass that James Williams leaped for, caught, and shot in one motion at the buzzer. The shot banked away, but it was ruled that Brandon Garrett had interfered with the shot after it hit the glass, and goal-tending was called, tying the score.

The deflated Blues managed just three points in overtime, and Glenvar made all eight of its free-throw attempts.

The Highlanders appeared as if they were going to run away by opening the game with a 19-9 run. But Parry McCluer rallied in the second quarter behind Garrett, who scored nine points to pull the Blues within two points, 28-26, at the halftime.

Williams led the Highlanders with 17 points. Willis hit four 3-pointers and scored 16.

Nathan Floyd led the Blues with 16 points, McElroy scored 13 and Mike McElroy had 11.
