HOLIDAY BURGLARS HIT BAND AT HIDDEN VALLEY JUNIOR HIGH

Burglars broke into Hidden Valley Junior High School and took several band instruments and a stereo unit Dec. 26, the second time the school was broken into within two days, according to Principal David Blevins.

A school custodian found a window in the band room smashed Christmas morning. Nothing was found disturbed in the room, Blevins said.

The next day someone broke through a window on the loading dock, made their way to the band room and took two clarinets, one flute, one saxophone and a couple of bell sets. Blevins estimated the value of the stolen items at about $4,000.

It was the year's second incident of band equipment being taken from a Roanoke County junior high school. Thanksgiving morning, a custodian at Cave Spring Junior High School discovered that someone had slipped through an unlocked window in the band room and taken the instruments for the entire percussion section.
