CHAD BOWDEN, son of Rand H. Bowden, has received the Robert Campbell Foundation Scholarship to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. The scholarship was awarded by the Campbell Foundation for academic performance and promise of future success. Bowden attends the Fleming-Ruffner Magnet Center.

THE JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY chapter of Golden Key national honor society has inducted several new members from the Roanoke Valley. They are: Paul C. Famularo, Mollie E. Grim, Mark E. Sinozich, and Ashley N. Thompson, all of Roanoke; and Christian L. Ramsey of Buchanan.

QUILL, Patrick Henry's literary-art magazine, has received first place awards from both the American Scholastic Press Association and the Virginia High School League.

MARK MITCHELL, son of James and Reta Mitchell of Roanoke, recently performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the Ferrum Edition, a vocal variety troupe from Ferrum College. The group was selected last year to participate in the Center's holiday celebration and was invited back to perform as part of this year's festivities.

DONNA ELIZABETH FUQUA and CRAIG SHANNON MENEFEE, both of Roanoke and students at Bluefield College, have been selected to be in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities.

MELANIE HAIN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hain of Roanoke, has been chosen to serve as a presidential associate at Gardner-Webb University, where she is an education major.

Presidential associates serve as representatives of the university at special functions throughout the academic school year.

Hain also is a member of the Student Volunteer Corp.

CAVE SPRING JUNIOR HIGH recently announced that 33 students earned a seat in the All-District Band.

Three students made the highest score on their instrument: Ashley Puig, first-chair alto saxophone; James Dixon, first-chair trumpet; and Julie Thacker, first-chair alto clarinet.

KRISTIN D. WESTERMANN, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. D.J. Westermann of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

Thirty other students who earned a seat were: Elizabeth Rae, Kristi Kirby, Amanda Foshag, Laura Casteell, Amy Scheuer, Kristin Weary, Elisabeth Stevens, Claire Pitner, Laura Fisher, Allison Crawley, Heather Winfree, Jennifer Hrdlicka, Caitlin Evans, Stephanie Scott, Ashley Nash, Melissa Holmes, Harry Kessler, Erika Shernoff, Wes Derryberry, Brandon King, Nathan King, Maria Harstine, Emily Powell, Anna Craft, James Brennan, Bradley Ross, Kerry Fair, Moyra Wright, Kevin Henderson and Brandy Conner.
