Norfolk Southern Corp. has begun competing with trucks on the railroad's Atlanta-Dallas route with a new second-morning service called the "Hotshot 20."
NS said the train is to compete with over-the-road freight on Interstate 20 with an aggressive rate strategy and the expedited service. I-20 parallels much of the rail route.
The train makes connections in Atlanta with other cities served by NS and the Florida East Coast Railway.
The Kansas City Southern, which operates the train between Meridian, Miss., and Dallas, is NS's partner in the intermodal service. Intermodal freight is that which moves by more than one mode of transportation.
