BROUGHMAN, Laura Amy Goff, 78, of 2312 Grafton St., Clifton Forge, died Friday, January 6, 1995, at the Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was born March 20, 1916, in Poteau, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. "Doug" Broughman on June 14, 1985. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J. D. ""Doug"" Jr. and Betty L. Broughman of Covington; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and George Kelley of Anderson, S.C.; a grandson, Bruce E. Haynes of North Carolina; granddaughters, Connie H. Miller of Arizona, and Lisa Haynes of North Carolina; five nieces; one nephew, and a number of great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Broughman and her husband were owners and operators of Big Hill Grocery in Eagle Rock for 38 years. She was a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church, and was a past Elder. The family will receive fiends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Funeral will be in Galatia Presbyterian Church Sunday at 3 p.m., with interment in Bethel Cemetery, with the Rev. BROWN, Pauline Lackey, 72, of Collinsville, died Friday, January 6, 1995. Funeral services 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 1995, Collinsville Church of the Brethen. Arrangements Collins Funeral Service, Bassett.

COCHRAN, Norman Wesley, 59, of Salem, died Thursday, January 5, 1995, at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was born in Radford and had lived in Salem for the past 37 years. He had recently retired from NAPA Warehouse, Division of Genuine Auto Parts, where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of the New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a former deacon and usher and enjoyed participating in the mens fellowship at the church. Survivors include his wife, Frankie Baker Cochran; four brothers, Leon, Sidney and Early Cochran, all of Radford, Haven Cochran of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Justine Shepherd and Shirley Albert, both of Radford, Bar bara Howard of Macon, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church on Airport Road in Roanoke with the Rev. Walter Lee Wood Jr. and the Rev. R. G. Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Appalachian Pentecostal Conference Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends at the John M. CRAIG, Evangelist Mirtha Mae, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, January 1, 1995, in Folsom, Pa. Survivors include her devoted daughter, Irene G. Wade of Folsom, Pa.; two sisters, Zepha K. Lee of Philadelphia, Pa. Aneder King of California; one son-in-law, Russell L. HAWKINS, Esther Mae Rakes, 64, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Copper Hill, passed away Saturday, December 28, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Hawkins. She is survived by her foster mother, Ora R. Poff; a foster brother, Wade Poff, both of Copper Hill; and a foster sister, Becky Janke, Seattle, Wash. Memorial services will be held at Salem Church on January 7 at 2 p.m.

JOHN, Jean Duke, 72, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, January 6, 1995. Surviving is her husband, Dr. Byron M. KINSLEY, Helen Louise, 69, of Goodview, died Thursday, January 5, 1995 in a local hospital. She is survived by her husband, John E. Kinsley; sons, Neil Kinsley, Goode; Terry Kinsley, Copper Hill, John D. Kinsley, Lynchburg, Paul Kinsley, Goodview; Joel Kinsley, Goode; eight brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Paul E. Mahan officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel after 1 p.m. Sunday where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

KRANTZ, James Lee, 60, of Roanoke, died Friday, January 6, 1995. He was born in Charleston, W.Va., the son of Howard M. and Jewell S. Krantz. He graduated from Ohio Northern University, School of Pharmacy, and was a charter member of Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity. He was active in pharmacy organizations in West Virginia and Virginia, including two terms as president of the Virginia Society of Hospital Pharmacists. He was chosen Pharmacist of the Year in 1982. He retired as director of Pharmacy Services at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He was past secretary/treasurer of the Roanoke Valley Kiwanis Club and president of the Mended Hearts, Inc., Chapter 144. He was a member of the United Ostomy Association and Mill Mountain Theater Stage Hands. He was an active member of Westhampton Christian Church and was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William H. Krantz. Surviving are his wife, Sherri O. Krantz; two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Lee, Jr. and Monica Krantz, Frederick, Md., Kevin M. and Rita Krantz, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Evan Lee Pruitt, Mali Karin Krantz. The family suggests memorials be made to Westhampton Christian Church Endowment Fund, or Good Samaritan Hospice. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial services will be at Westhampton Christian Church at 7 p.m. Monday. Dr. Paul D. MAYS, Opal Trew, 70, of Roanoke, entered into rest Friday, January 6, 1995. She retired from the VA Medical Center. Mrs. Mays was a member of First Baptist Church, also a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary #3, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 1264 and the W.O.T.M. Chapter 1022. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence L. (Buck) Mays; daughters, Debra M. Howard, Lisa R. Mays; a son, Michael L. Mays, all of Roanoke; grandson, Jason L. Kegley, Terre Haute, Ind.; sisters and brother-in-law, Bernice T. and William H. Jennings, Hazel T. Wiggins, all of Roanoke; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and a number of nieces and nephews. NIMER, Sherlene Kincer, 49, of Rainbow Forest area in Botetourt County, died Thursday, January 5, 1995, in a Salem hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was secretary at Kazim Temple, retiring due to illness. She was preceded in death by her dear father, Frank W. Kincer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary J. Nimer, Rainbow Forest; her dearly beloved children, son, Franklyn (Mark) Gisiner, US Navy; daughter, Michelle Gisiner DeAngelo and son-in-law, Edmund DeAngelo, King of Prussia, Penn.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gene Chewning, Vinton; goddaughter, Annette Willard Ison, Vinton; grandchildren, Gary and Brian Janney, and Jason Chewning, all of Vinton; mother, Geneva Kincer; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Leonard Rorer; dear brothers, Charles W. PADGETT, Jacob Logwood, 74, of Buchanan, died Thursday, January 5, 1995, in the Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem. Mr. Padgett was born August 15,1920, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Jacob A. Padgett and Cleavy Logwood Padgett. Mr. Padgett retired from Leggetts Department Store with 29 years service. Surviving are wife, Mary Catherine Huffman Padgett, Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Tony Alan and Brenda Padgett, Hampton; brother, Leeo B. Padgett, Buchanan. PAYNE, Arthur Gray, (``Oather""), 76, of Hillsville, died Friday, January 6, 1995, in a Radford hospital. He was born in Giles County on March 21, 1918 and was the son of the late Milton Columbus and Mary Madgeline Bradley Payne. He was preceded in death by four brother and four sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Hester Spice of Narrows and Virginia Hale of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 1995, in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows with the Rev. Eddie Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening. SKEEN, Mae C. Moneyhun, of Roanoke, formerly of Big Stone Gap, died Thursday, January 5, 1995, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, Va. Born in Kentucky, the daughter of the late Silas and Sarah Pelfrey Collier, she lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap and Appalachia, Va. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #157, Big Stone Gap, Va. She was of the United Methodist Church faith. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank B. Moneyhun Sr. and by her second husband, Lake Skeen. Survivors include two sons, Frank B. Moneyhun Jr., Knoxville, Tenn., James Edgar Moneyhun, Roanoke, Va.; one grandson, two great-grandsons; one brother, Roy Collier, New Johnsonville, Tenn. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel, Big Stone Gap, Va. Order of the Eastern Star services will be conducted at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chaper by the Order of the Eastern Star #157, Big Stone Gap, Va. STANLEY, William Arthur, 58, of Rt. 6, Rocky Mount, died Thursday, January 5, 1995, in the Roanoke Memorial Rehab. Mr. Stanley retired from the Lane Company after 38 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Juanita Thurman Stanley, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Mark Law, Lori and Michael Fowler, all of Rocky Mount; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sharon Stanley, Rocky Mount, Neil R. Stanley, Redwood; his grandchildren, Hope and Stephen Law, Jeremy and Dustin Stanley, Enna Fowler; one sister and brother-in-law, Reva and Marvin Spicer, Rocky Mount; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Nancy Stanley, Rocky Mount, R ichard and Midge Stanley, Roanoke; a special uncle and aunt, Walter and Virginia Willard, Moneta. STURROCK, Greta Lucas, 87, of Roanoke, died Thursday, January 5, 1995. She was the widow of Ken Lucas and Murray Sturrock. Surviving are six children, Brock Lucas, St. Petersburg, Fla., Betty Stewart, Brockville, Ontario, Joan Harcourt, Kingston, Ontario, Michael Lucas, Orlando, Fla., Lynne Ludovici, Roanoke, Heather Pritchard, Westminister, S.C.; one brother, Rev Hunter, Ontario; 20 grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 1995, with the Rev. Thomas O'Dell officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Columbarium.
