WORLD WAR II SUBMARINERS' KIN SOUGHT

A veterans' group is conducting a nationwide search for the families of the 3,500 American submariners - including 70 from Virginia - who lost their lives during World War II.

A black granite wall engraved with the names of the lost men will be dedicated in Groton, Conn., on Sept.2, to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Surviving family members should contact the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II at P.O. Box 1024, Groton, Conn. 06340 to help confirm the accuracy of the names.

The group also would like to hear from airmen or the families of airmen who were rescued by submarines.
