Sophomore guard Anthony Walker scored a game high 22 points, leading Radford to a 71-68 victory over Towson State on Saturday afternoon in the Big South Conference.
Radford ended Towson State's 22-game home-court winning streak, one that dated to Jan.9,1993 when Delaware beat Towson State 76-69. Radford also became the first Big South team to beat the Tigers at the Towson Center. Towson State had a 17-0 record at home against Big South opponents in its two-plus years in the conference.
Radford took an 11-point lead in the first half and went to the locker room up 47-40 after shooting 58.6 percent from the floor. Walker scored 17 points in the first half.
Towson State scored six points in the first minute of the second half to close to 47-46. But two three-point plays by senior Antoine Dalton helped put the Highlanders up 53-46 with 17 minutes, 35 seconds remaining.
The Tigers cut their deficit to two points on three occasions, but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
With 4:12 remaining and Radford holding a 69-67 lead, junior guard Shane Weddle converted a layup off a pass from Chris Harvey. The Highlanders had a 71-67 lead at that point and held on without scoring in the last 4:12.
The Tigers' last chance came in the closing seconds, when sophomore DeRon Robinson missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the score and forced overtime.
Radford had four scorers in double figures. Junior Jason Lansdown had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Dalton added 14 points and eight rebounds. Chris Harvey scored 11 points for the Highlanders.
Towson State was led by center Jason Crump with 16 points. The Tigers' leading scorer, Ralph Blalock, was held to 10 points.
