BOYD, Gladys M., 93, of Richmond, passed away Friday, January 6, 1995, in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Boyd and a daughter, Lois Boyd Hayden. Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Commonwealth Women's Club, University Heights Garden Club, the Amity Club and was one of the original members of Women in the Arts. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy Boyd and George A. Milan, Roanoke, Barbara Boyd Smith, Richmond; grandchildren, Katherine M. Virak, Christopher B. Milan, Pamela M. DERBY, Jeanette Quarles, 98, of Richmond, died Saturday, January 7, 1995. She was the widow of Luther J. Derby Sr., who was for many years a minister in the Virginia Conference of United Methodist Church, and served as president of Ferrum College from 1943 to 1948. He also served several churches in the Richmond and northern neck areas. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Derby Barger, Buchanan, Va., Carolyn Derby Micklem, Rochester, N.Y.; a son, Luther J. Derby Jr., Tappahanock, Va.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Derby was a member of Ginter Park United Methodist Church, Richmond, the Lee Chapter of the U. D. C. and the William Byrd Chapter of the D. A. R. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Richmond, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. GRAHAM, William Hagan, 70, of 130 Dora Highway, Pulaski, died early Saturday morning, January 7, 1995, at his home. He was born in Hurley, Va. on March 12, 1924, and was the son of the late Hagan Lee Graham and Mary Riddle Graham. Mr. Graham was a graduate of Draper High School and a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He worked for a number of years in Richmond, Va. for the State Anatomical Lab in the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Virginia as the state's embalmer. He was currently an employee of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski, where he had been employed since 1979. Mr. Graham was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII as a Private First Class in Company E, 2nd Ranger Infantry Battalion, having participated in the Campaigns of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. Mr. Graham received three Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Theater Ribbon and the Purple Heart. He was wounded in action in Germany on March 4, 1945. Mr. Graham was a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge, the Pulaski American Legion Post and the Pulaski VFW Post, where he was also past Commander. He was a member of the Kazim Temple of Roanoke, the Roanoke Shriner's Club, and he was a former treasurer of the Pulaski Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Virginia Funeral's Director Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski. Surviving are his wife, Karen P. Graham, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine and Robert Gambill, Pulaski. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Norman Wilhoit and the Rev. Ty Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Holston Conference Cemetery, Emory, Va., with full military graveside rites. Visiting will be Monday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Immediately following visitation, there will be a Masonic Service, with the public being invited. HALL, Efery M., 79, of Rocky Mount, passed away Saturday, January 7, 1995, at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a life member of Chapter #3 V.F.W. Mr. Hall was also a member of Roanoke Lodge #284 Loyal Order of Moose. He retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway and Q.M. Tomlinson, Corp. Surviving is his wife, Kathleen M. Hall; his sisters, Mamie Hall, Effie Ward and Pearl Dillard, all of Wilksboro, N.C.; a number of nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m.Monday in Sherwood memorial Park. MEEKINS, Lena J., 51, of College Park, Md., the Asst. Director of Income Maintenance for the State of Maryland at the Charles County Dept. of Human Resources, died of cancer, Friday, January 6, 1995, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, Va. A resident of College Park, Md., Mrs. Meekins was born in Roanoke to John B. and Wilhelmina Kasey. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John B. Kasey Jr. She was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke and Hampton University, and resided with her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and James Burks in Roanoke for the last four months of her life. She was a member of the National Eligibility Association, was active in the Asst. Directors Income Maint. Assoc., where she served as Secretary until her illness, and the American Public Welfare Assoc. Survivors are her daughter, Stephanie M. Kennedy and her husband, Joe; her son, Tracey L. McShepard; two grandchildren, Antoine Newman and Lazelle McShepard, all of Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Franklin (Charles), Mrs. Janice Burks, (Jim), both of Roanoke, Mrs. Brenda S. He was born July 7, 1913 at Bearspring, the son of the late Joshua W. and Elizabeth Bish Mustard. he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hamblin Mustard and was a life time member of the Bearspring United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Basil and Hazel Mustard, Jimmy and Sue Mustard, all of Bearspring, Bobby and Judy Mustard, Portsmouth; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Vest, White Gate; two grandchildren, Kenny and wife, Carol and Keith Mustard; two foster grandchildren, Robert and David Guill; two great-grandchildren, Ella Mae and Joshua Mustard. PARKER, J. Auddy, 86, of 3600 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, January 6, 1995, in Asbury Care Center. He was born November 25, 1908 to the late Earnest and Virginia Painter Parker. He retired as a pharmaceutical salesman/trainer with the McKesson Corp. where he won many awards as an outstanding salesman. He was the former owner of the A & M Food Store in Charlotte and a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church where he was honored in 1992 for 60 yea rs of service. He was a lifetime deacon and served in many capacities as Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Director and Chairman of the Building Committee when the present sanctuary was built. He was in the National Guard and a member of Phalanx Lodge N. 31 A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Webb Parker, who died July 4, 1984. He is survived by two sons, James W. Parker of Pottsville, Pa., and William L. Parker of Roanoke; niece, Mrs. Patty Marks of Charlotte, N.C. and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. WHITTAKER, David Wayne, 34, of Rt. 7, Axton, died Thursday, January 5, 1995. He was born September 18, 1960 in War. W. Va. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and was a well-known architectural draftsman in Martinsville, Henry County, and Pittsylvania, a member of the Dixie Land Express Band, he was also active in the archery and hunt clubs in Henry and Pittsylvania Counties. He was a member of Clearview Baptist Church, Martinsville. He is survived by his father and mother, Franklin D. and Vivian Christian Whittaker, Roanoke; four sisters, Mrs. Buddy (Brenda) Hedge, Roanoke, Mrs. Kenny (Debbie) Thompson, Ferrum, Diana Whitta ker, Roanoke, Mrs. Timmy (Kitten) Mitchell, Roanoke; three brothers, Frank D. Whittaker Jr. and his fiancee, Patricia Nichols, Check, Jim Whittaker and his wife, Betty, Roanoke, Robbie Whittaker and his fiancee, Cindy Thompson, Roanoke; six nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held from Clearview Baptist Church, Martinsville, at 12:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Amos Turner officiating. WILLIAMS, Howard D., 63, of Marion, died Saturday, January 7, 1995 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his son, Airman Joseph H. Williams. He is survived by his wife, Lois Gillespie Williams of Marion; one daughter, Carolyn E. Williams, Wyanesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald David and Lisa Williams, Wintston-Salem, N. C.; one sister, Mary Cregger, Roanoke; one grandson, Joseph Dean Williams. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Seaver-Brown Chapel, with the Rev. Bryan Childress and the Rev. William Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. WISE, Samuel Hanford, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 7, 1995, in a local hospital following a short illness. Formerly of Nelson County, Ken., and Charleston, W.Va., he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Chisholm Wise. Mr. Wise was a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he was a member of the Triangle Fraternity. He retired from Applachian Power Company. Mr. Wise was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, a life member of the National Rifle Association and a Past President of the Roanoke Camera Club. He was a former Scoutmaster and a Fellow in the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn W. and Ted H. Row e of Florence, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel N. and Sandra S. Wise of Roanoke; grandchildren, Todd H. Rowe and wife, Sonya, Craig A. Rowe and wife, Gloria, all of Hartsville, S.C., Samuel T. Wise, Jennie J. Wise, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Oakey's North Chapel by Dr. Alton M. Washington. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.
WRAY, Edna J., 56, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 7, 1995, after a year long struggle with cancer. She is the daughter of Edith B. Jones and the late William H. Jones of Princeton, W.Va. and was preceded in death by a brother, W. Kelly Jones. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, James R. Wray; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra W. and Johnny King of Scottsboro, Ala., Suzi R. and Lonnie Gaston of Chester, S.C.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Gina Wray of Charlotte, N.C., Michael W. and Marlene Wray of Boones Mill; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Denise and Mike Beverly of Boones Mill; sisters, Vi Brinegar, Ada Burnop, Patricia Wray and Betty Lynn Phillips; brothers, Donald E. Jones, Harry Wayne Jones, Paul D. Jones; also seven grandchil dren. Funeral services will be conducted noon Monday, January 9, 1995, at Lotz Funeral Home Chapel, Roanoke, with the Rev. Denny West officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice of Roanoke Memorial Hospital, P.O.
