KNIGHTS ABBREVIATE SHAWSVILLE'S MIRTH

James River used a 21-point first quarter to overcome a first quarter deficit and defeat Shawsville 69-53 in non-district boys' high school basketball Monday night.

Shawsville (1-7), which won its first game in more than two years last Saturday, caught James River (2-6) asleep in the first quarter and crept out to a 19-17 lead.

Curtis Nolan brought the Knights back in the second period, scoring five of his game-high 20 points, including three buckets from 3-point range. Shahan Burell also tossed in five points in the second quarter. Burrell finished with 12 points, and Brian Shorter added 13 for James River.

Lynchburg Christian 60

Simon Foster hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to ice a Virginia Independent Conference victory for Roanoke Valley Christian.

Foster led the Eagles (8-3 overall, 3-0 VIC) with 20 points and Joe Surkamer added nine in the victory. Richard Booth tossed in eight points and nine assists for RVC.

Don Barrows scored 22 points for Lynchburg (7-5, 3-2), and Trent Richardson poured in 18. Shea Ferguson added 10 points in the loss.

E.C. Glass jumped out of the gates to a 24-12 halftime lead and never looked back as the Hilltoppers blasted Patrick Henry.

Erin Reid led all scorers with 12 points for E.C. Glass (5-4), and Leeanne Houston added 11 for the Hilltoppers.

The Patriot (0-9) were led by Artrice Webb's nine points and Renea Hill's seven.
