RETRIEVERS PUT COLLAR ON RADFORD 60-48

The University of Maryland-Baltimore County continued its stingy ways Monday, holding Radford to its lowest point total in Ron Bradley's four seasons as the Highlanders' head coach.

The Retrievers beat the Highlanders 60-48 in a Big South Conference game in Baltimore and held an opponent to fewer than 60 points for the third straight game.

Sophomore forward Marc Lay scored 16 points to lead the Retrievers. UMBC (4-7 overall, 2-0 Big South) allowed Radford 17 second-half points.

Despite the strong defensive play, UMBC shot only 29.6 percent from the floor, including 6-of-29 in the first half.

Radford (7-5, 1-2) capitalized on UMBC's shooting woes in the first half, taking a 31-23 halftime lead. But UMBC's Artie Walker hit two 3-point goals to open the second half to cut the gap to 31-29.

Radford led 41-40 with 8 minutes, 34 seconds remaining when Lay hit a jumper to give UMBC the lead at 42-41. With 1:53 seconds remaining, Tony Thompson's three-point play provided UMBC with a 52-46 margin.

Radford was led by Anthony Walker's 18 points and six rebounds. Antoine Dalton, Radford's leading scorer at 16.1 points per game, was held scoreless by a UMBC defense that forced 16 turnovers.
