ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGED IN MONDAY NIGHT SHOOTING

A Montgomery County man has been charged with attempted murder after a dispute that left a Christiansburg man with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

James William Stallings, 21, of Fountain Mobile Home Park on Pandapas Road, is also charged with using a firearm to commit a felony.

Stallings called 911 at 10:13 p.m. Monday to report the shooting.

Deputies arriving at Stallings' trailer determined that Lonnie Carl Mullins, Jr., 28, of the 900 block of Woodrow Road in Christiansburg, had been shot in the abdomen with a 9mm handgun. Mullins had already been taken to the hospital by private vehicle when the deputies arrived.

Stallings told police he had been dating Mullins' estranged wife and that she came to his trailer at about 5 p.m, according to Sgt. Billy Wiatt's report.

Five hours later, Stallings told Wiatt, Lonnie Mullins Jr. came to his trailer and knocked at the door. Stallings got his gun from the kitchen and told Mullins to go away. When Mullins came into the trailer making remarks "that he loved his wife and he was going to take Stallings out," Stallings cocked his gun and pointed it at Mullins, Wiatt wrote. Stallings fired at Mullins when Mullins raised his arm, according to the deputy's report.

Stallings told the deputy he had consumed five or six beers since 7 p.m. The handgun was found in another trailer at the park, Wiatt wrote.

Stallings was being held in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. Mullins was still a patient at Montgomery Regional Hospital early Tuesday evening.
