HARRISONBURG - A man accused of mailing his wife a bomb that injured her when she opened the package containing it has been taken into federal custody, federal authorities said Tuesday.
Delmer Victor Leonard, 48, of Keyser, W.Va., was arrested Saturday on charges of manufacturing and mailing an explosive device, U.S. Postal Inspector Martin P. Davis said Tuesday. The bomb was mailed Dec. 20.
Leonard's ex-wife, Patricia Smith, suffered burns on her face and hands when the low-explosive device made out of a Christmas ornament blew up.

Firehouse-sex investigation widens
STAFFORD - The Stafford County Sheriff's Office says it has expanded its investigation into sex at the Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department.
Deputies arrested five firefighters last week and charged three of them with having sex with a girl several times between 1991, when she was 14, and 1994. The other two were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
``The investigation is continuing,'' Detective William F. Bowler said Monday. ``We have identified other suspects and offenses.'' Bowler said the investigation is ``still in the early stages. It's probably going to go back for several years.''

AIDS-carrying rapistx gets life sentence
RICHMOND - A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping an 8-year-old girl knowing that he had the virus that causes AIDS.
Circuit Judge James B. Wilkinson sentenced Thomas Andrew Perkins on Friday to the maximum punishment for the rape. Punishment in rape convictions ranges from five years in prison to life.
The girl is being checked periodically to determine whether she contracted the fatal virus.
