Monday's games
Bassett 84, Laurel Park 77: In Martinsville, in what might have been one of the longest games ever played by two Timesland teams, the Bengals beat the Lancers in four overtimes in a Piedmont District matchup.
While teams might have struggled through four extra periods before, this was the equivalent of more than five overtime periods because of a rules change effective this season. Overtime periods were increased from three to four minutes this season, meaning the teams play half a game more than a regulation contest.
Tyree Hairston scored 11 of his game-high 36 points in the four overtimes to boost Bassett (5-4, 4-4). Laurel Park (6-4, 6-2), led by Girard Foster with 23 points, was hurt in overtime when it went cold from the free-throw line. The Lancers made only three of 10 free throws after going 15-for-21 in regulation.
Meadow Bridge 73, Covington Boys' Home 35: In Meadow Bridge, W.Va., the hosts used a big third quarter in which they outscored the Indians 25-0 on the way to an easy non-district victory.
Sean Riddick led Boys' Home with 10, but that wasn't enough to offset four double-figure scorers, led by Michael Burns with 15.
