BALDWIN, Bruce Vance Jr., 68, of Roanoke, died Sunday, January 8, 1995. Funeral Wednesday, 2 p.m., Lotz Salem Chapel.

BANNISTER, Helen Inez, departed life on Monday morning, January 9, 1995 at a local hospital. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Butcher, born in Roanoke in the Harrison Ave. home, which remained her home throughout her long, productive life. Mrs. Bannister received her early education in Harrison and other Roanoke City Schools and received the B.S. degree from Virginia State College. She taught school in Lexington and Pulaski, as well as many home bound children of Roanoke b efore entering the real estate profession in which she remained active until the end. She was a member of the First Baptist Church from early childhood until her death and faithfully served as treasurer of the Community Housing Corporation for many years, until her health failed recently. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Bannister; and son, Wendell Cornelius Evans by a previous marriage. She is survived by sisters, Mrs. Almond Crocker, Roanoke, Mrs. La Verne (Linwood) Graves, Atlanta, Ga., Ethelbowman, Williamsburg; devoted counsin, Phyllis Morgan, who loving cared for her during her illness; faithful friend, Aaron Robert Taborn; one daugther-in-law, Carliss Taborn; four stepgreat-grandchildren; many loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, North Jefferson St. with Dr. Kenneth B. Wright officiating. Burial at Williams Memorial Park. MARTIN, Lura Mae Beason, (``Sis""), 78, of Fincastle, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday, January 10, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a member of the West Salem Baptist Church for 38 years where she was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Brown Lee Martin Jr. and Debby Nester Martin, Robert A. Martin and Kimberly R. Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Betty M. Platter and David W. Platter; grandchildren, Keith A. Platter and wife, Donna, Kristi A. Platter; brothers, William (Bill) J. Beason and wife, Venice, Thomas F. Beason; a sister, Aileen B. MEADOR, Ressie Manges, 92, of Roanoke, died Friday, January 6, 1995, at the home of her daughter in Springfield. She was the widow of Walter ``Pete'' Meador who died in 1982. They had lived in the Williamson Road area since 1928. She was of the Protestant Faith. She was a homemaker. SMILEY, Morris Leroy Sr., 79, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, January 10, 1995, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born February 24, 1915, at Carlisle, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Eliza Smiley. Mr. Smiley was a retired Maintenance Superintendent for Lee's Carpet of Glasgow, a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, served on Glasgow Town Council for 40 years, was Past President of Glasgow Fire Department and the Glasgow Masonic Lodge #233. Surviving are wife, Dorothy N. Smiley, Glasgow; son and daughter-in-law, Morris Leroy Jr. and Hilda Smiley, Glasgow; two grandchildren, Christopher Scott Smiley, Buena Vista, Lisa T. TOLIVER, Samuel Edward, 60, of Bedford, died Monday, January 9, 1995, at his residence. Samuel was born in Bedford County on March 10, 1934, a son of Margaret Steptoe Toliver and the late Sim Clarence Toliver. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Helen Toliver, New York, N.Y.; one uncle, Kiah Steptoe, Bedford; three nieces, Teresa Toliver, Sue Toliver Jones and Jeannie Toliver, all of Bedford; one nephew, William Taylor, Goode; and a host of friends and relatives.
