COLEMAN, Larry Wayne, 39, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital after suffering from a long illness. He was born in Grundy on September 4, 1955. A son of Carlos Linberg Coleman, Salem and Pauline Byers, Madison Heights, Md. He had worked for Gateway Foods prior to his illness. Also surviving are his wife, Kathy Coleman; two sons, Joshua Coleman and Seth Coleman; three sisters, Rita Carter, Radford, Carla Robinson, Haysi, and Genora Robinson, West Allenhurst, N.J.; one brother, Gary Coleman, Aurora, Ill.; two halfbrothers, Michael Joseph Green, Haysi, Dennis Silcox, Madison Heights, Mich.; one halfsister, Melinda Gale Coleman, McClure. HIATT, Virginia Belle, 82, of Rt. 2, Box 293, Ararat, widow of the late Clarence Oten Hiatt, died Tuesday night, January 10, 1995 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy, N.C. Mrs. Hiatt was born June 23, 1912 in Patrick County, Va. to the late William Marion (Dink) and Mimie Gwynn Hiatt, attended Patrick County public schools, was a graduate of the Hardin Reynolds Memorial High School at Critz, Va., attended Guilford College for two years and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Radford University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, which is an organization of outstanding educators. Mrs. Hiatt was a retired school teacher and principal for 39 years in the Carroll County School System, was president of the District M Virginia Retired Teachers Association, and was a member of the Grace Moravian Church, where she served in many positions at Grace Moravian Church and Willow Hill Moravian Church, where she served as pianist, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer and youth leader. She was instrumental in organizing the Grace Moravian Senior Friends, having been the president several times. She loved her music, enjoyed entertaining her friends and fed a multitude of people with her cooking. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Red) and JoAnn Hiatt, Lowgap, N. C., William Carroll and Joyce Hiatt, Toast, N. C.; three grandsons and wife, Jerry and Dana Hiatt, Mt. Airy, N.C., Brandon Hiatt, Lowgap, N. C. and Darren Hiatt of Toast, N.C.; one stepgrandson, Grant Cockerham, Lowgap, N.C.; five sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret H. Leonard, Ararat, Va., Ester H. and Garnet Dawson, Ararat, Va., Clara H. Meredith, Fancy Gap, Va., Evelyn Coulson, Cana, Va. and Ruth H. Bowman, Elkin, N.C. JENNINGS, Thomas Ralph, 79, of Galax, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 1994, in Twin County Regional Hospital. Born October 14, 1915 in Grayson County, the son of John and Rosa Jennings. He attended Bluefield Business College and was a veteran of World War II. He retired as executive vice-president of First National Bank in 1981. Serving on the Board of Directors of Twin County Regional Hospital, Mr. Jennings was a member of Galax Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7568, and UCI, a fraternal organization. He was a member of Galax Presbyterian Church, where he served in many capacities, including Su nday School Superintendent, treasurer, Board of Deacons, Elder and Board of Trustees. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Blanche G. Jennings; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Louthian, Wirtz; one granddaughter, Lindsay Louthian; and two grandsons, Todd and Brett Louthian, all of Wirtz; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Estel Marshall, Galax; several nieces and nephews. LITTLE, Dr. Scott W., 68, of Roa noke, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 11, 1995. He was an ear, nose and throat specialist for thirty-three years, and founder of The Little Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic. Dr. Little was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and graduated from the University of Manitoba, B.S.C., M.S.C., and McGill University (Montreal), M.D., C.M. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, and played trombone in the Kazim Shrine Band, and The Community Band. Surviving are his wife, Muriel Little; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clare and Jennifer Little of Arlington, Bryan Little of Richmond; and a daughter, Robyn Little of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday from St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, with the Rev. James Drinard Smith officiating. Inurnment will take place in the church columbarium at a future date. MASK, Lt. Col. Bernnie Rylen, USAF (Ret.), 76, of Goodview, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 1995. He was preceded in death in May of 1994 by his wife of 54 years, Frances Foster Mask. Survivors include his daughters, Mrs. Sandra M. Holland, Clifton, Mrs. Amy M. Drain, Vinton; two sons-in-law, James E. Holland, Ronald E. Drain; grandchildren, Lindsay, Courtney, and Matt Holland. Another grandchild is expected soon. Also surviving are his sister, Helen M. Saul, Roanoke; brothers, Buford Mask, Vinton, Raymond Mask, Goodview; favorite aunt, Hazel Webb, Roanoke; two special sisters-in-law, Penny and Margaret. Lt. Col. Mask's military career included service as a China-Burma-India Hump Pilot during World War II, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and numerous air medals for flights ``during extremely treacherous weather conditions necessitating long periods of operation on instruments"". He also flew in the Korean War, where he was awarded a number of air medals. Other assignments included tours in Japan, England, Idaho, California, Mississippi, and Texas. In 1988, he received an award from the government of China in appreciation for the missions he flew over the Himalayans resupplying the Allied Forces in China during World War II. Following his retirement, he and his family returned to El Paso, Texas, where he had served earlier as the Operations Officer at Biggs Air Force Base. Later he served as Chief Pilot for Texas State Optical in Beaumont, Texas. After retiring a second time, he and Frances returned to their home state of Virginia, where they resided in Goodview on Smith Mountain Lake. In total retirement for the past 19 years, he was an active member in the QB Pilots Association. He was a member of Williamson Road Masonic Lodge #163, the Scottish Rites, and a member of Kazim Temple. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, with the Rev. Dennis Moore, Pastor of Beaverdam Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services with full military honors conducted by Seymour Johnson Air Force base in Goldsboro, N.C., will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. MORRIS, Flora French, 90, of McCoy, died Tuesday, January 10, 1995, at Radford Community Hospital. Mrs. Morris was born in Montgomery County on July 6, 1904, a daughter of the late John Burman and Clara Isabell Teel Fagg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Tillman Morris. Mrs. Morris was a member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Adele M. Erickson, Blacksburg, and Dreama M. and (Mitch) A. R. MURPHY, Boy d, 83, of Rt. 6, Rocky Mount, entered into his Heavenly home, Tuesday, January 10, 1995. Mr. Murphy was born in Lindsey, W. Va. He worked as a coal miner in W. Va. for fourteen years. He moved to the Roanoke area in 1942, worked and retired from N & W Railroad as a brakeman and conductor. He was a member and Deacon at First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Rocky Mount. He was a master craftsman and spent his leisure time in his woodworking shop. He was a hard-working, devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Murphy was the son of the late John and Caroline Murphy. He is survived by his precious wife of 64 years, Cassie Harvey Murphy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Boyd Jr. and Doris Murphy, Montrose, Colo., John and Wanda Murphy, Forest, Va., Chester and Rosemary Murphy, Montrose, Colo.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Dave Carpenter, Orange Park, Fla., Dolores and ``Rusty"" Russell, Roanoke, Betty and George Overfelt, Boones Mill, Nancy and David Secrist, Greenville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of stepgrandchildren; four brothers, Hubert Murphy, Monroe Murphy, Millard Murphy, Arnold Murphy; two sisters, Dollie Hardin, Norma Phillips; many nieces and nephews. SHOUP, Christopher Edward, 22, of 326 Lanny Dr., Winchester, died Monday, January 9, 1995, at the Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Shoup was born February 5, 1972, in Lychburg, Va. , the son of Edward T. Shoup, Winchester, and Dewey N. and Carol Morgan Sink Jr., Winchester. He was a previous employee of Shoney's Restaurant and Golden Corral of Winchester. He was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving with his parents are two sisters, Kimberly C. Shoup and Tracy S. Stottlemyer, both of Winchester; grandparents, Melvin and Wanda Morgan, Roanoke, Judith and Nick Fuller, Roanoke; Wilburt L. Shoup, Arlington; one brother-in-law; one nephew; 13 counsins; seven aunts and uncles, and one great-aunt and great-uncle. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Omps Funeral HOme Chapel, Winchester with the Rev. R. Drexel Rayford, Ph.D. officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in WInchester. She was born in Pearisburg, Va. on July 12, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Thomas Gordon Fleeman and Edith Morris Fleeman. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Woods Jr., Roanoke; one stepson, Robert H. Woods III, Bridgewater, Va.; two daughters, Carroll Finley George, Richmond, Romaldia Finley Hodges, Lanexa, Va.; two brothers, Charles A. WOODY, Eva Gladys, 90, of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, January 10,1995 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born July 7, 1904, she was the daughter of the late James Marshall and Alice Parcell Woody. Mrs. Woody was the wife of the late Jeff Woody, was a graduate of Radford College and was a former school teacher. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 13, 1995, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Ivey Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Woody Family Cemetery, Rocky Mount, Va. The family will receive friends at Lynch Funeral Home, Thursday, January 12, 1995 from 4 to 8 p.m. Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
