NORTH CROSS VICTORY HINGES ON 4TH QUARTER

North Cross took advantage when Roanoke Valley Christian went ice cold in the fourth quarter and rallied for a 68-56 Virginia Independent Conference boys' basketball victory Thursday.

Roanoke Valley Christian (8-4 overall, 3-1 VIC) led 47-40 heading into the final period, but went 3-for-18 from the field as John Prillaman rallied North Cross (5-5, 3-1). The senior forward scored eight of his 16 points in the quarter, and the Raiders hit 11 free throws.

Hal Johnson led North Cross with 19 points and Brian Whitaker added 16 - 12 of those on 3-pointers.

Junior guard Mark Arbogast led the Eagles with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Joel Nester scored 12 points and Simon Foster added 11 for RVC.

COVINGTON - The Stars raced to a 38-13 halftime lead and never were threatened in winning a non-district game.

Brandon Patterson had 18 points to lead Shenandoah Valley Academy (6-2). Jeremy Johnson had 14 points and Brian Patterson 12 for the visitors from New Market.

Covington Boys' Home (3-8) got eight points from Sean Riddick and seven from Troy Coleman.

LYNCHBURG - Joseph McClinton had 30 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Chiefs to a VIC victory.

Rod Mitchell added 20 points for Carlisle (9-2, 6-1). Carlisle bolted to a 19-9 lead after one quarter and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Timberlake Christian (7-5, 2-4) got 24 points from Jon Phillips.
