HAMPTON INMATES CONVICTED IN BEATING

A judge has convicted five Hampton City Jail inmates of beating other inmates during a cellblock fight last summer.

Andre Daniels, 24; Travis Garrett, 23; Frederico Dixon, 19; Samuel Williams, 21; and David Ezzell, 19, were convicted Wednesday of felony maiming by mob in the Aug.19 beatings of inmates Terry M. Benoit and Steven Wiebeld.

The five inmates also faced misdemeanor charges in connection with the beating of inmate Thomas Arwine.

Daniels and Williams were acquitted, but Hampton Circuit Judge Nelson T. Overton found Garrett, Dixon and Ezzell guilty of misdemeanor assault and battery by mob.

The men will be sentenced March 6.
