BASHAM, Ernest G., 96, of Salem and formerly of Floyd County, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 11, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Dobbins Basham. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Lavene Nichols, Dorothy (Dotty) and O.D. (Bill) Palmer, both of Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edsel and Mary Basham, Lebanon, Vern and Marie Basham, Dublin, James (Jimmy) and Rose Basham, Floyd; one sister, Virginia B. Dobbins, Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Jerry Basham, Sherry Maxwell, Carolyn Basham, Terry Basham, Tim Basham, Glenn Nichols, Glenna Nichols, Kesha Basham; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Burkes, the Rev. Dee Flory, and the Rev. Jimmy Cannaday officiating. BLOOMER, Bradley T., 61, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, in a Salem Hospital. He is survived by two sons, Robert Bloomer and Tony Bloomer, Salem; two grandchildren, Samantha Bloomer and Amanda Bloomer; three sisters, Ollie Brunner, Pearl Bloomer and Lois Bedsoe, all of Kingsport, Tenn.; three brothers, Herbert Bloomer, Burton, Mich., Hubert Bloomer, Miamiburg, Ohio, Vernard Bloomer, Flint, Mich.; and a special friend, Ruby McDaniel , Roanoke. BREWER, Willie Jane., (Bill), 88, of Roanoke United Methodist Home, formerly of Newton, N.C., died Thursday, January 12, 1995. She was the widow of Harry H. Brewer. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Joanne Brewer of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Julius Outten of Richmond; five grandchildren, Sharon Williams, Brenda Conner, Michael Outten, Tracy Brewer, Jodi Meador; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. The remains have been moved from Oakey's South Chapel to the Drum Funeral Home of Conover, N.C. where the family will receive callers on Friday afternoon. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, N.C. The Rev. Joe Parker will officiate.

CADD, Ruth Alley 77, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers disease. She was the widow of Frank Earl Cadd. Surviving are three daughters, Judith C. Bush, Hardy, Lynn C. Herring, Roanoke, Sandra C. Gordon, Hardy; three sons, Kenneth R. Cadd, Roanoke, Daniel W. Cadd, Vinton, Frank Edward Cadd, Fountain Colo.; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia A. Austin, Salem, Ann A. Shaffer, Calif., Jettie A. Moorman, Del.; special and devoted friends, Wayne Griffith, Butch Herring, Jeanne and Calvin Duncan. CLARK, William Major Loving, 82, of Vesuvius, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995 at his residence. Born in Amherst County on january 2, 1912, he was the son of the late Henry Arthur Clark and Cora Tyree Clark. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Louanna Clark, Vesuvius; a daughter, Louise O. Miller, Dryfork; a sister, Sophie Brown, Sweet Briar; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 1995, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wyatt Mays officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. DAVIS, Ruby Hale Nickols, 80, of Pulaski, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born September 3, 1914, in Wythe County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Hale and Clelia Grubb Hale. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Crockett Nickols Sr. and five brothers. She is survived by her husband, William Bruce Davis; one son, Richard Crockett Nickols Jr., Marlborough, Conn.; two sisters, Fannie Mae Spraker and Elizabeth Alice Arnold, both of Roanoke; two grandchildren. FLOYD, Lora Johnson, 89, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, in Shenandoah Valley Health Care Facility. Born May 1, 1905, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar F. and Blanche Mary Dudley Johnson. She was a member of Neriah Baptist Church and the widow of Robert A. Floyd. Surviving are: Daughter-in-law, Mandy Cash, Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Beulah Cash Whiteside, Lexington; several nieces and nephews. GREER, Paul Gillespie 72, of Salem, died Tuesday, January 10, 1995, at a Salem Hospital. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Raycraft, Lews, Del., Gloria Jean Adkins, Salem; one step son, John Fling, Exeter, N. H.; three brothers, Warren Greer, Roanoke, Everett Greer, Malcolm Greer, both of Salem; one sister, Annie Boone, Salem. GROW, Douglas Carlton, 62, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital. He was born June 8, 1932 in Buena Vista, son of the late George C. Grow and Mildred Kessinger Grow. He was a very active member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Aubrey Foster of Buena Vista; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Pidge) and Peggy Grow of Buena Vista, and Edward and Lucille Grow of Epharata, Pa.; four nieces; five nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Buena Vista Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. HALL, Evelyn Virginia, 75, of 405 Parkland Dr., Danville, died Thursday, January 12, 1995, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 17, 1919, in Nashville, Tenn., daughter of the late Mary Frances Barton. She worked at HealthTex for 12 years, then retired and became a self-employed seamstress. She was a longtime resident of Roanoke, then moved to Danville in 1951. She was a member of Stuartsville Baptist Church in Stuartsville, Va., and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge #80. Surviving are her husband, Hubert Landford Hall; sons, Leroy I. McCarty, Brosville, Jackie K. McCarty Sr., Dry Fork; a sister, Dorothy Doss, Vinton: a brother, Marion Barton, Stuartsville; seven grandchildren; 4 great-grand-children. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 14, in Danville Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Nevin Alwine officiating. HUFF, Col. Douglas Anderson, U.S. Army (Ret.), 68, of Roanoke County, died Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 1995, at home. Born in Detroit in 1926, Colonel Huff obtained his commission at Ft. Benning, Ga., Officer Candidate School in 1945. Colonel Huff served in the Korean War and twice in Vietnam. From 1965 to 1967, he was assigned to the Military Assistance Command in Vietnam and the First Infantry Division. He served as Battalion Commander in the 101st Airborne Division in 1969. Colonel Huff was widely decorated including The Legion of Merit twice, four Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medals, two Commendation Medals and The Purple Heart. He was Post Commander at the U.S. Army base in Wildflecken, Germany. In 1993, Colonel Huff was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame at Ft. Benning, Ga. He retired after 32 years of military service having faithfully and courageously served his country. He entered the real estate profession in Roanoke in 1977. Locally he served a period as Commander of the Civil Air Patrol and volunteered for the Red Cross. Colonel Huff also served as president of the local chapter of The Retired Officers Association. During Desert Storm, Colonel Huff organized a care package and letter writing campaign for soliders stationed in the Persian Gulf. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Barbara Huff, Roanoke County; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Stephney Huff, Seattle, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Julien Meyer, Roanoke; stepdaughter, Georgiann King, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Maurice Wright and General William Rosson, U.S. Army (Retired), officiating. HURT, Ophelia Jenkins, 79, of Route 2, Goodview, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 1995, in Roanoke. She was born in Franklin County on February 28, 1915, a daughter of the late John W. Jenkins and Lydia Thurman Jenkins. Her husband was the late Earnie Hurt. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. She was a former employee of Moneta Dress Factory, and a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Earnie Berkley and Shelby Hurt, Vinton, Rucker William and Doris Hurt, Goodview; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha H. and Jeff Gessling, West Palm Beach, Fla., Patsy H and Mike Stovall, Vinton; two brothers, Olin Jenkins and William Jenkins, both of Hardy; one sister, Della Hannabass, Goodview; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside serv ice will be conducted on Saturday, January 14, 1995, at 11 a.m., at Diamond Hill Church Cemetery by the Rev. Dave Snead. KASEY, Freckley 70, of Braxton Ave., Salem, died Wednesday, January 11,1995. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Curley C. Tinsley, Rocky Mount, Mrs. Robie Hill, Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother-in-law, Robert Tinsley, Penhook; a devoted friend, Iman Wali Al-Min; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and other relatives adn friends. KAYALOFF, Aletha Muriell, 80, Caldwell, W. Va., died Thursday, January 12, 1995. Born June 16, 1914 at Constable, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John Frederick and Daisy Brockway Maloney. She was one of 12 children who was a kind, compassionate, lovely lady devoted to her family and loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vladimie Kayaloff. Survivors include three daughters, Anne Pisarra, Raleigh, N.C., Aletha Marilyn Kayaloff, Roanoke, Nora Jane Johnson, Caldwell, W.Va.; one son, Walt Dean Kayaloff, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday Memorial Chapel McCraw Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens. MASON, Hazelteen Elizabeth, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 12, 1995. She was predeceased by her father, C.M. Mason; a brother, Clyde M. Mason. She was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church, retired from American Viscose and Pittsburg Plate Glass of Roanoke. Surviving are her mother, Florence Mason; sister-in-law, Ruth Wilson, McClean; nieces, Linda Mason, Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Mason Gil, Clifton; Catheryn L. RIFE, Charles W. Sr., 94, of Roanoke, passed away, Wednesday, January 11, 1995, in the Richfield Nursing Center. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church and retired from Clover Creamery with 41 years of service. He was a member of the Roanoke Osceola Lodge #47 and was predeceased by his wife, Mary Johnson ""Virgie"" Rife. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-laws, Ruby and Victor Stevens, Roanoke, Evelyn and Bill Starner, York, Pa., Marie Goyer, Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Charles and Jean Rife, David and Janet Rife, all of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mable States, Roanoke; neices and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakeys Vinton Chapel, 11:30 a.m., Saturday with the Rev. Wayne Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. ROBERTS, Donald, (``Pete""), 76, died on January 12, 1995, in Annandale, Va. He had Alzheimer's Disease. He was the son of the late Hayse and Pearl Simon Roberts and the husband of Lillian Bradshaw Roberts who died in March. Born in Richmond, Mr. Roberts lived in Hampton for 40 years before moving to Arlington in 1990. Mr. Ro berts was a partner of Sawyer Construction Company for 30 years. During World War II, he was in the Army reserve while working at Langley field as an inspector of construction. Mr. Roberts was an Eagle Scout and served as an adult scouter for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hampton for over 50 years where he served on the Board and the Finance Committee. He was also a past president of the Hampton Kiwanis Club and was active in the Peninsula Builders' Exchange, the Virginia Peninsula Coin Club and the Virginia Numismatic Association. He was editor of ""The Virginia Numismatist"" for 15 years. He is survived by a son, Dr. Donald Hayse Roberts, Roanoke; and two grandchildren, Amanda G. Roberts, Richmond, Susannah S. Roberts, Roanoke; a daughter, Jeanne Roberts Bickner, died in 1984. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 1995, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. A. Purnell Bailey. The burial will be in the Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. ROBINSON, Frank L. Jr., 81, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, January 12, 1995, in Greendale Home for the aged. He is survived by one sister, Mary R. Faris; one nephew, William G. (Bill) Faris Jr.; one niece, Mary Alice Faris; two great-nephews, Mark Faris and Glen Faris, all of Glade Spring. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kelly's Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Robert N. Lominack Jr. and the Rev. Terry D. Goodman officiating.
