The coaches' poll marks the first time the Tech women have been ranked nationally.
``This ranking shows what a lot of hard work and dedication can accomplish,'' said Carol Alfano, Tech's coach. ``Being the first team at Virginia Tech to be ranked is a tremendous gift the players have given to one another. The ranking is also a springboard for great things to come.''
The Hokies are 12-4 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Conference. Tech defeated No.9 Virginia 69-62 last Friday and has won five games in a row.

The Roanoke Express has added forward Mike Krygier to its roster. Krygier was claimed off waivers last week by Express coach Frank Anzalone, who immediately loaned him back to the Knoxville Cherokees when they lost their leading scorer, Sean Pronger.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound left winger had three goals and three assists in 23 games for the Cherokees.
