Merger expands Industrial Gas

Industrial Gas and Supply Co., which operates on Mexico Way in Roanoke, has expanded its service area into North Carolina with its merger with American Welding Supply of Canton, N.C.

American Welding will be the Bristol, Tenn.-based company's 11th location.

April high-tech show planned

HAMPTON - Expotech, a showcase of regional high technology, is expected to attract up to 1,500 scientists and business executives to Virginia this spring.

``We want to aggressively promote and market our local businesses,'' said John Lawson, chairman of the Virginia Peninsula Economic Development Council.

Expotech will be conducted April 5-8. The exposition will feature technologies developed by the NASA Langley Research Center and will include tours of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility in Newport News.

Avis Construction begins 7 projects

Avis Construction Co. Inc. of Roanoke said it has begun construction on: a 51,000-square-foot building for CMC Corp.; a 10,000-square-foot addition and renovations for General Medical Corp.; a 4,800-square-foot expansion of Medeco Security Locks Inc.; a 3,600-square-foot addition and interior modifications for Lamar Outdoor Advertising; a 31,000-square-foot addition for Corrugated Container Corp.; a 10,000-square-foot warehouse addition for Larry Scott and Associates; and a 5,200-square-foot office and warehouse building for Southern Maintenance Supply.
