AKERS, Henry Eugene, 86, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, January 15, 1995, in the V.A. Hospital in Salem. He was an Army veteran of WW II and had recently been a resident at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem. Surviving are his wife, Nellie A. Akers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lannie and Paul Spradlin, Christiansburg, Ida and Don Rakes, Shawsville; four grandsons and their wives, Harold and Jennie Spradlin, Riner, David and Sandy Spradlin, Christiansburg, Roger Spradlin, Riner, D. J. Rakes, Shawsville; one granddaughter and her husband, Karen and Joe Strickler of Blacksburg; three great-grandsons, Brandon, Jamie and David; three sisters, Virginia Myers and Tressie Cole, both of Christiansburg, Bessie Tilley, Florida; a brother, Emmit Akers of Hampton. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Charles Pfaff. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

ALLS, Buddy Montgomery, (``Blue""), 56, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, January 14, 1995. He was born March 19, 1938, in Montgomery County to the late Percy Montgomery and Roxie Ann Dove Alls. He is survived by five sisters, Revella Jane Brown, Elliston, Betty G. Jones, Vinton, Lois Marie Kanode, Radford, Burnice Campbell and Shelby Jean Linkous, both of Blacksburg; three brothers, Arnold Jackson Alls, Mansfield, Texas, Eddie Dean and Willis C. Alls, both of Blacksburg; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 1995, at Slusser's Chapel Church of God. Rev. Richard Gilbert will be officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

BASHAM, Kenneth Allen, Jr., 34, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 1995. He was office manager of Oncology and Hematology Associates of Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Bailey Basham; one son, Kenneth Allen Basham III, both of Roanoke; a stepson, Keelan Bailey, Richmond; parents, Delores and Kenneth Basham Sr.; three sisters, Delbra Basham, Donna Basham and Avis Drew, all of Roanoke; one brother, Victor Basham, Roanoke; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ralph Harris will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

BOOTHE, Rev. Sherman Edward, 83, of Narrows, died Sunday evening, January 15, 1995, in the Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. He was born in Monroe County, W.Va., on May 5, 1911 and was the son of the late Henry Clay and Cora Lee Mann Boothe. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Oakvale, W.Va., where he had served as its pastor. He also pastored churches in Stony Creek, Va., and Lindside, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Frances Frazier Boothe. He is survived by two sons, Boyd Lee Boothe, Narrows, Sherman E. Boothe Jr., El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Judy B. Trivette, Trigg, Va., Shirley B. Cochran, Greenville, W.Va.; two brothers, Charles S. Boothe, Covington, Pete G. Boothe, Rocky Mount; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows, with the Rev. Kimball Jones offici ating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows, Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

CLARK, William Major Loving, 83, of Vesuvius, died Wednesday, January 11, 1995, at his residence. Born in Amherst County on January 2, 1912, he was the son of the late Henry Arthur Clark and Cora Tyree Clark. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Louanna Clark, Vesuvius; a special niece ``daughter'', Louise O. Miller, Dryfork; a sister, Sophie Brown, Sweet Briar; a brother, Beecher Clark, Buena Vista; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 1995, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wyatt Mays officiating. Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery. CLAYTOR, Hazel Cornelia, 79, of Buena Vista, died Monday, January 16,1995 in a Roanoke hospital. She was born October 10, 1915 in Rockbridge County, daughter of the late Clarence L. Claytor and Blanche Hickman Claytor. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice C. Saunders, three brothers, Eugene C., Elwood S., and Melvin C. Claytor. She is survived by three brothers, Talmage L. and Glenn, both of Buena Vista, and Dr. Charles N. Claytor, Pensacola, Fla.; a devoted aunt, Mae Crickenburger; and 18 special nieces and nephews. She was a devoted lifetime member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the U.M.W. and a loving friend to all who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, with Dr. W. K. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service in Buena V ista.

HECK, Henry Davis Sr., 67, of Rt. 1, Bedford, passed away Monday, January 16, 1995, at his residence. He was born November 1, 1927, in Bedford County, a son of the late Hugh Heck and Lena Heck Heck. His wife was the late Imo Deliah Lawhorne Heck. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation with 42 years of service. He was an Air Force Veteran having served in the Korean War. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Henry Davis and Lisa Ann Heck Jr., Chattanooga, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Sheena Deanne Heck; a stepgranddaughter, Emily Ann Ellis, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five sisters, Commie Whorley, Montvale, Ava Montgomery, Troutville, Evelyn Dooley, Thaxton, Della Hogan, Altavista, Stella Welch, Roanoke; many nieces; nephe ws and cousins. MOXLEY, Melvin Francis, (``Pete""), 73 of Box 58, Glasgow, went to his eternal rest on Monday, January 16, 1995, at his home. Born September 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Hida Burks Moxley and Grace Wagner Moxley. He was retired from Reeves Brothers of Buena Vista. He was in the Air Force during World War II, and also a member of the Glasgow Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Nellie Riddle Moxley, Glasgow; a daughter, Barbara J. Moxley, Glasgow; a son and daughter-In-law, Michael F. and Joelle P. Moxley of Forest. Va.; a sister, Jane Moxley Coleman, Buena Vista; a brother, William N. Moxley, Nelson Co., Va.; two grandchildren, Michelle M. Moxley, Forest, Va., Michael B. Moxley, Forest, Va.; a number of nieces and nephews. STEBNER, Kurt F., 81, of 120 Storey Creek Lane, Rocky Mount, died Sunday, January 15, 1995, at the local hospital. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law; two daughters and a son-in-law; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Franklin Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Larry Holland officiating. THOMPSON, Violet Ward, 82, of Roanoke, died Monday, January 16, 1995. She was the widow of Guy G. Gray and Calvin W. Thompson and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late George and Sally Ward. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Omi Brickey, New Castle; a brother, George L. Ward, Virginia Beach; a niece, Judith Shannon, Roanoke. Surviving are her sister, Lorraine W. Chewning, Roanoke; several nieces and nephews, Carolyn S. Weaver, Roanoke, Margaret Ann Elmore, Catawba, Charles Brickey, Alvin Brickey, James Brickey, Clarence Brickey, all of New Castle, and Mary Huffman, Newport; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Christ Lutheran Church with the R ev. Mark Wm. Radecke and Rev. Robin L. Henrickson officiating. Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ Lutheran Church (2011 Brandon Ave. S.W., Roanoke, VA 24015) or a favorite charity. WOOD, Marcus Scott, 81, of Chatham, N.Y., died Wednesday, January 4, 1995, in Green Manor Nursing Home, Ghent, N.Y. Born December 8, 1913, in Evington, he was the son of the late Grover and Alberta (Scott) Wood . He graduated from Salem High School in Salem, and attended Roanoke College and the University of Virginia. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He came to Chatham, N.Y., in 1955, where he joined the family business, Metz Insurance Agency of Chatham, and in 1960, he became the owner and president of the Metz-Wood Insurance Agency, unil his retirement in 1981. He was a member of of the Chatham United Methodist Church, having served as a trustee. He was a past president of the Columbia County Board of Realtors, past director of the state Professional Insurance Agents, and past president of the Chatham Lions Club. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion Post 42 of Chatham, and a member of the Kinderhook Bourbon and Chowder Society. Surviving are his wife, Marie (Metz) Wood of Chatham, N.Y.; a son, Marcus Scott Wood Jr. of Chatham, N.Y.; a brother, E. Garrison Wood of Lynchburg; a sister, Mildred Coalter of Salem; two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, at 2 p.m. at Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham, N.Y., with the Rev. Sandy Koppmann of the Chatham United Methodist Church officiating. Inurment was in Chatham Rural Cemetery. Calling hours were Saturday, January 7, 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
