AROUND NEW RIVER

DUBLIN - New River Community College has obtained a $20,700 grant from the Department of Education to be used toward the advancement of its Interpreter Training program which provides instruction in sign language.

Students enrolled or seeking enrollment in the college's existing interpreter training classes can receive funding for tuition and textbook fees to continue their studies. The grant project also entails training students for preparation for the Virginia Quality Assurance Screening performance test, which all prospective interpreters must pass for certification status.

BLACKSBURG - The Department of Philosophy and the Center for Programs in the Humanities will sponsor a symposium in memory of William H. "Bill" Williams Jan. 28, 3-5:30 p.m., in Brush Mountain A, Squires Student Center, Virginia Tech.

Robert C. Bates delivers opening remarks. Guy Hammond chairs a discussion on Immanuel Kant and the Enlightenment, while Harlan Miller leads a discussion on David Hume and political philosophy.
