MINUTEMEN TOP GENERALS

Stephen Shrader scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter and Liberty solidified its first-place hold in the Seminole District with a 57-52 boys' victory against William Campbell on Tuesday.

The Minutemen gained a working margin in the first half and held on despite being outscored 30-26 in the second half by William Campbell (4-7 overall, 4-7 Seminole District).

J.J. Coles scored 13 points, and Raymond Arrington had 11 for Liberty (11-1, 11-1).

James Younger scored 13 points and Chauncey Walker added 11 for the Generals.

Covington 90

Craig County 68

NEW CASTLE - Robert Roman scored 14 points to get the Cougars going in the first half, and Brian Holloway provided a third-quarter spark to help them finish off the Rockets in a Pioneer District game.

Roman scored 17 points to lead Covington (7-5, 4-1), which led 23-13 after one period. Holloway scored six of his 14 points in the third quarter, as the Cougars extended their lead to 64-44.

Corey Whittaker scored 14 points for the Cougars, and Erwin Twitty added 12.

Robbie Huffman led Craig County (3-5, 1-2) with 23 points. Jamie Fisher scored 20 and made four 3-pointers.

Bland 50

Shawsville 45

BLAND - Monty Matthews scored all 13 of his points in the third quarter to help Bland take a nine-point lead and hold on for the non-district victory over Shawsville.

Shawsville (1-11) was led by Jeremy Nichols, who had a game-high 14 points, including three 3-pointers. The Shawnees, who hit seven 3-pointers for the game, also got 11 from Tony Walker.

E.C. Glass 60

Franklin County 50

LYNCHBURG - Bryan Jones scored a career-high 20 points to rally the Hilltoppers from a 13-point deficit in a non-district victory over the Eagles.

After trailing 18-5 early in the second period, E.C. Glass (5-6) went on a 9-0 run late in the half to cut its deficit to 28-25 at halftime.

Jones scored eight points in the third quarter as the Hilltoppers took the lead. Glass made 11 of 13 free-throw attempts in the fourth period.

Chad Foutz led Franklin County (5-6) with 15 points, Carlos Holland added 13 and K.C. Hancock had 12.

FLOYD - Freshman Travis Cantrell scored 18 points in the first half as the Buffaloes pounded the Pioneers in a non-district game.

Cantrell finished with 21 points and three 3-pointers for Floyd County (7-3), which zipped to a 23-4 lead after one quarter. Brian Harmon also scored 21 points and had four steals.

ROCKY MOUNT - Beth Mallot and Tia Scott each scored 11 points in the second half to lead the Hilltoppers past the Eagles in a non-district girls' game.

Sandy Hudson led Franklin County (7-4) with 10 points, four assists and three blocked shots. Patty Campbell added nine points and eight rebounds.
