RADFORD - The city is planning its annual Emergency Personnel Services dinner for late February or March. The dinner is made possible by contributions from businesses and citizens. Girl Scout cookies

SALEM - Area Girl Scouts will begin taking cookie orders Jan. 20. The cookies sell for $2.50 a box. The troop keeps 45 cents for each box sold. If you wish to order cookies but do not know a Girl Scout, call the council at (800) 542-5905.

Literacy Volunteers

BLACKSBURG - Literacy Volunteers will offer training for English as a second language on Jan. 22, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., at Newman Community, 203 Otey St. Call Barbara Guthrie, 382-7262.
