LINE-DANCING RECORD TRY TO BENEFIT CANCER PATIENT

EAGLE COUNTRY 107, WPSK (107.1 FM) plans to go for a world record in country line dancing to benefit Karen Board, who has cancer and needs a bone marrow transplant. The station invites all New River Valley residents to help out with the fund-raising event next Saturday, Jan. 28, starting at 4 p.m. at New River Valley Mall. The goal is to break the world's record for the number of people participating in an amateur country line dance, currently 30,000 according to the Guinness Book of Records.

WPSK requests a $5 donation from each participant. Dance instructor Tina Hicks is scheduled to be on hand for a short practice session. Eagle Country morning personality Steve Holstein says the station plans periodic live broadcasts from the mall starting at noon. There will be trophies and prizes for the occasion and a visit by the Virginia Tech Hokie Bird. Board is a Virginia Tech employee.

The station says donations to help Board also are welcome at the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, P.O. Box 2243, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Make checks out to MCEAP-VTEF.

Levi Garrett of KOOL COUNTRY, WBNK (100.7 FM) gets busted Tuesday to help out the Muscular Dystrophy Association's efforts to raise money. Garrett will be in the MDA's lockup Tuesday, 11 a.m.-noon, at Holiday Ford-Mazda, Blacksburg, singing the blues as he waits for donors to make his ``bail.'' 382-6106.
