AKERS, Henry Dewey, 59, of Vinton, died Friday, January 20, 1995 in a local hospital. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and was employed by Superior Exterminators. He was preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Akers in 1979. Surviving are his wife, Betty Akers; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Stewart Holdren; a grandson, Kevin Holdren all of Vinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Martha Akers of Covington, Tenn.; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Nettie Mills of Chesapeake, Geraldine and Dennis Stewart, Vinton, Joyce and Andy Habingreither, Roanoke, Vivian and Kinnard Scott, Lakeland, Fla., Sudie and Gordon Ritter, Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, with the Rev. J. E. Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Building Fund of New Testament Baptist Church. Friends may call at Oakey 's Vinton Chapel after 3 p.m Saturday.

ATKINS, Daniel Eldridge, 86, of Woolwine, died Friday, January 20, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, Roselawn Burial Park. Arrangements by McKee Funeral Home.

BERMAN, Margaret, (``Polly""), of Charlottesville, formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, January 19, 1995, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. Born March 11, 1926 in Coosa County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Loyed Cummings of Goodwater, Ala. She was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and was a registered nurse. She moved to Roanoke i n 1956 and was a member of Huntington Court Methodist Church where she was a leader of Girl Scout and Cub Scout programs for over 20 years. She was active in the Roanoke City School PTAs and president of the PTAs at Huff Lane Elementary, Ruffner Junior High, and William Fleming Senior High Schools. She moved to Charlottesville in 1979. She was the wife of Max Berman of Charlottesville; mother to five children and spouses, Joe and Susane Berman of Charlottesville, Jerry and Ellen Berman of Richmond, Ann and Peter Vaden of Charlottesville, David and Marcia Berman of Gordon, Ky., Becky and Eric Martin of Fredericksburg; grandmother of seven, Matthew and Michael Berman, Mary, Elizabeth and Cate Vaden, Erika and Scotty Berman. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Louis Vaden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 1995, at the chapel at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, followed by a graveside service at Monticello Memory Garden with the Rev. Richard Faris officiating. The family will receive friends at Hill and Wood Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 1995.

BRYANT, Okey Cainen 93, of Iron Gate, died Friday, January 20, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Pocahontas County, W. Va. on August 17, 1901, and was the son of the late William Henry Bryant and Nora Gibson Bryant. He was a retired machinist helper for the C & O Railway Company, and a member of the Iron Gate Advent Christian Church, and past elder of the church, and a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the International Association of Machinist. He is survived by his wife, Edna Florence Dew Bryant, Iron Gate; two daughters, Mrs. David (Carol) Frango, Jr., Iron Gate, Mrs. Roy (Ruby) Painter, Blue Ridge; one son, Chlenford H. Bryant, Kingsport, Tenn.; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, one step-great great grandson and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Ed Neal offciating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, David Clark, Chad Clark, Dan Zicafoose, Bud Rapp, Ronald Dowd and Cecil Aldridge. DRAIN, David Frazier, 40, of Lexington, died Friday, January 20, 1995 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1954 in Rockbridge County, a son of Mrs. Ressie (Moore) Drain, Lexington and the late David Lee Drain. Mr. Drain was employed in the Athletic Department of Washington and Lee University, with nineteen years service. He was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Jeffrey Frazier Drain, Lexington; a sister, Ms. Carolyn D. Murray, Roanoke; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Drain Ellis, Lexington; fiancee, Bonnie Hayslette, Fairfield; a number of cousins, including Herman Moore and Greg Moore, Lexington; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted 3 pm. Sunday, January 22,1995, in New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Nancy S. Whiteley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening, January 21, 1995, at Williams Funeral Service, Lexington. GOODWIN, Leonard H. (""Bill""), 95 of Salem, died Friday, January 20, 1995, in a Salem hospital. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. (""Jugie"") and Barbara Goodwin, Roanoke County; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary G. (""Sandy"") and Jerry Cooper, Roanoke County; three sisters, Lena Long, Elliston, Ruth Gresham, Salem, Naomi Dent, Roanoke; six grandchildren, Paul Goodwin, Julie Wilburn, both of Salem, Leonard (""Len"") Cooper, Diane Cooper, Matthew (""Mat"") Cooper, all of Roanoke, Travis Ballou, Roanoke; great-grandson, Morgan Wilburn, Salem. HUDSON, Daronce Gwendolyn, 55, of Pembroke, died Thursday, January 19, 1995 in Radford Community Hospital following a long illness. Born in Giles County, she was a daughter of the late William Ralph and Alberta Martin Williams. She was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New River Ward. She was the wife of the late J. E. ``Brownie"" Hudson. She is survived by one daughter, Donnetta H. Snider, Pembroke; three sons, W. A. Hudson, Kevin Hudson, and Greg Hudson, all of Pembroke; one brother, Ralph E. ``June"" Williams, Pembroke; two sisters, Brenda A. Albert, Pearisburg and ASally W. Lloyd, Sutherland, Va.; six grandchildren; a very special friend, Madeline King, Pembroke; and sev eral aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 22, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New River Ward at Pembroke, Va. KIMBERLIN, Albert Lorenza, (``Sonny""), 50, of 1225 Sixth St., S.E., Roanoke, died Thursday, January 19, 1995. He is survived by two sons, Allen Kimberlin, Roanoke, Bryant Kimberlin, Barberton, Ohio; his parents, Albert and Edith Kimberlin, Roanoke; two sisters, Beatrice Liddle, Fort Myers, Fla., Linda Myers, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Carolyn Kimberlin, Roanoke. KIRBY, James Vance, 73, of Marion, died Thursday, January 19, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was retired Inspector for Brunswick Corporation with 26 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Georgia N. (Vada) Kirby, Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen K. and John W. Warren, Great Falls; one brother, Hubert J. Kirby, Marion; four grandchildren, Julie A. Warren, John W. Warren Jr., Jennifer B. Warren, and Jason B. Warren all of Great Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in the Marion Baptist Church with Dr. William Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. LUCKADOO, Monroe Jackson,. 82, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, January 19, 1995, in Radford Community Hospital. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Luckadoo, he is survived by children, Samuel Luckadoo, Lorraine Chafin, Clarence Luckadoo, Mildred Trump, all of Christiansburg, and Becky Bailey, Blacksburg; one sister, Cindy Shark, Christiansburg; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, January 22, from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jerry Shepherd with burial in Sunset Cemetery. MONGER, John Daniel, 88, of Salem, passed away Friday, January 20, 1995, at Friendship Manor. He was retired from Valley Cadillac with over 40 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Helen Terry Monger; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jean and Hylton (Bill) Howell, Jr., Roanoke, Mary Lou and John Williams, New Castle; two grandchildren, Bergita Moore, John Williams, Jr; two great-grandchildren, Blaine Sirry and Andrew Sirry; also surviving are four nephews, Walter, Wendell, and Jack Brooks, Dewey Monger, Jr., Roanoke. Ricky was a Deacon of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, Vice-President of the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department, Sixth District Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Quartermaster of the Buchanan VFW Post #5895, and a member of the Buchanan American Legion #93. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Nancy Walker Sink; parents, Charles S. and Margaret P. THOMAS, Michael Todd, 26, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, January 13, 1995. WHITTAKER, Maude 99, of Pearisburg, died Friday, January 20, 1995, in Norfolk. She was born in Giles County, on May 12, 1895, and was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Whittaker. Mrs. Whittaker was a retired employee of Hoechts Celanese. She is survived by, two daughters, Stella Potter, Norfolk, Helen Cawley, Norfolk; one son, Bill Whittaker, Conyers, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted, Sunday, January 22, 1995, at the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Perkins officiating.
