PANAMANIAN SHIP CATCHES FIRE OFF VIRGINIA BEACH

The Coast Guard helped put out a fire Saturday on an 868-foot container ship off Virginia Beach. No one was injured and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The captain of the Panamanian ship Pol America, which had 32 people on board, radioed the Coast Guard about 9:20 a.m. after the fire broke out in the ship's engine room. The fire was extinguished by 11 a.m.
