PATROL CAR RUNS LIGHT, HITS VEHICLE

A Blacksburg police officer responding to an early-morning disturbance totaled his vehicle when it collided with another car.

Officer N.P. O'Dell was driving north on Main Street at 3:14 a.m. Saturday in response to a call from Foxridge Apartments. As he began to run the red light at Main and Turner streets, he collided with an eastbound 1989 Ford Escort, driven by Heather Michelle Carter, 21, of Harding Avenue. Police reports say the officer had his blue lights on as he entered the intersection.

Both drivers were taken to Montgomery County Regional Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
