VOLVO ROLLING ALONG

The $200 million expansion of Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation's truck assembly plant is proceeding on schedule, officials said.

The project, which includes a new cab-assembly plant and a high-volume paint facility, is being built next to the existing facility.

Begun last May, the expansion was aided by good weather at the end of 1994. Foundations, utilities, framework and decking have been completed, and Volvo GM officials said that the new buildings should be enclosed by the end of January.

The paint facility will be Volvo GM's first in the United States. Its only paint facilities now are in Sweden.

All the new facilities are scheduled to be in operation sometime in 1997. The plant has about 1,400 employees. The expansion will create more than 175 jobs at the plant, and hundreds more in support operations outside the plant.
