JACKETS HOLD OFF MAROONS

Nathan Davis scored 24 points, and Kurt Axe and Brad Shanfelt each added 15 Saturday as Randolph-Macon beat Roanoke 77-68 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

Davis sparked the Yellow Jackets (6-8 overall, 4-4 ODAC) to a 13-4 run when he sank a jumper to break a 38-38 tie with 18 minutes, 38 seconds remaining. Randolph-Macon led 51-42 with 13:24 left.

Roanoke (11-4, 6-3) never was able to regain the lead but did make the game interesting in the last minute as Jason Bishop scored seven points in three seconds.

With the Yellow Jackets ahead 73-61 with 21 seconds left, Bishop sank a 3-pointer, was fouled and hit the free throw. On a turnover on the inbounds play, the Maroons got the ball to Bishop for another 3-pointer to cut the lead to 73-68 with 18 seconds left. Randolph-Macon then hit four free throws to end the game.

Bishop scored 20 points to lead the Maroons, who are undefeated at home and 3-4 on the road. Tim Braun, Bryant Lee and A.J. Hamlin each added 10.
