WILLIAM BYRD RIPS HIGHLANDERS 83-52

Jeremy Obenchain and Chris Childress combined to score 56 of William Byrd's points in the Terriers' 83-52 victory over Glenvar on Saturday in a non-district boys' game.

Obenchain scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as William Byrd (11-1) outscored Glenvar 31-11 to put away the game. Childress added nine of his 30 points in the final period.

Glenvar (8-3), which trailed by 11 going into the fourth quarter, was led by Corey Willis, who scored 11 points before fouling out.

LOVINGSTON - Hunter Hoggatt scored 29 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Golden Eagles defeated the Governors in the Seminole District.

Nelson County (4-9 overall, 4-9 Seminole) jumped out to a 16-point lead midway through the first half before Hoggatt sank four 3-pointers in the second quarter to rally his team. The Golden Eagles (8-4, 8-4) used pressure defense to force several turnovers in the third period and outscored the Governors 18-6 to take command.

Hoggatt had five assists for Staunton River. Cornelius Foxx had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Jeff English added 11 points.

Chad Loving scored 20 to lead Nelson County.

DUBLIN - The Cougars opened up a 25-8 lead and never looked back in beating the Eagles in the Roanoke Valley District.

Kara Buckner led Pulaski County (13-1, 6-0) with 17 points. She was 11-of-13 on free-throw attempts. Lisa Skeens scored 14, and Jodie Hallett had 10.

Sandy Hudson scored 15 for the Eagles, and Renee Clayborne added 14.

Albemarle 50

The Knights used a 10-0 run late in the first half to erase a six-point deficit, and Aimee Beightol scored 18 points in the second half to power Cave Spring past the Patriots (9-4) in a non-district game.

Beightol scored 22 points, eight of those in the third quarter when Cave Spring (10-3) outscored Albemarle 16-4.

Jaclyn Banks added 22 points, and Allison Beightol scored 11 for the Knights.
