ADLER, M. M., (``Mike""), 85, of Marion, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Sara Ward Adler of Marion; one son, Alan B. Adler of Clearmont, Calif.; two sisters, Byrnece Condy and Eleanor Adler, both of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Brian, Wayne and Sharron Adler; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rabbi Stanley R. Funston officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 8 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

ARTHUR, Ennis Jewell Jr., 61, of 1663 Mt. Heights Dr., died January 21, 1995. A native of Roanoke, he was the son of the late Ennis J. Arthur Sr. and Lillie Hypes Arthur. Mr. Arthur retired from General Electric. He was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church and was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Taylor Masonic Lodge #23, Salem, and Kazim Shrine Temple, Roanoke. Survivors include his wife, Audrey B. Arthur; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Kenneth Wright of Roanoke; daughter, Laura Arthur of Salem; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas G. and Gloria Arthur of Salem; two grandchildren, Chandler and Kensey Wright of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, April Arthur, Sam Arthur, and Brian Arthur, all of Salem, and Susan Stacey of Atlanta, G a.; and several other nieces and nephews from out of state. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, in John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem by the Rev. Darryl G. Crim. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. John M. Oakey & Son, Salem is in charge of the arrangements.

CALDWELL, Clara Sue, 37, of Newport, died Saturday morning January 21, 1995 at her home following a long illness. Born in Beckley, West Virginia on April 6, 1957, she was the daughter of Arnold W. and Madeline Lucas Caldwell of Newport. She was employed at the Donaldson-Brown Continuing Education Center at Virginia Tech and was a member of Lutheran Memorial Lutheran Church in Pembroke. She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Mary Madeline Caldwell and Rita Ann Atkins both of Newport and her brother-in-law, Jack Atkins of Newport; a special niece, Daphne Dawn Atkins; a special nephew, Christopher Jason Caldwell and a special great-niece, Amber Dawn Caldwell all of Newport. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, January 23 in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at Pembroke with the Rev. Dennis Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery at Newport. COLE, Hilda Thompson, (``Granny""), 86, of Radford, passed away Friday, January 20, 1995. She was a member of the Fairlawn Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lloyd B. Cole. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, LeAntha and Melvin Thornton of Radford; one son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd B. and Gail Cole Jr. of Dublin; one brother and sister-in-law, James R. (Pete) and Mabel Thompson of Galax; two sisters-in-law, Ella R. Thompson and Edith Cole; six grandchildren and husbands, Clarissa and Steven M. Peterson Sr., Ginger and Richard A. Patton, Seth Cole, Grace Ann Cole, Charity Cole and Erika Cole; one great-grandson, Steven ``Mitchell"" Peterson Jr. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the Fair lawn Baptist Church in Fairlawn with the Rev. DUNBAR, Duane Morris Jr., 21, of Pembroke, died Saturday morning, January 21, 1995, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Giles County, he was the son of Duane Morris Dunbar Sr. and Joan Fletcher Dunbar of Pembroke. He was a member of the Giles High School Spartan Class of 1992 and played fullback for the Spartan football team. He is survived by his parents; his fiancee, Angela Burleson of Pembroke; his aunts and uncles Kevin and Barbara Dunbar of Goodview, Donald and Donna Dunbar of Pembroke, Leon and Barbara Casell of Wytheville, ``Butch"" and Betty Fletcher of Roanoke. Funeral and burial services will be privately conducted for the family. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.

GIESE, Mary Lutz, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Totowa Borough, New Jersey, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born January 6, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Tate Lutz. Mrs. Giese was a member of the United Methodist Church of Totowa, N.J. and was past president of the Women's Society of Christian Services and was a former sales associate for R.L. Hess & Bro. Jewelers of Lexington. Mrs. Giese was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford A. Giese, a former Supt. for Lees Carpet of Glasgow. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and William Hess Jr., Lexington, Doris and Eugene Holland, Lexington; one grandson, William L. (Skip) Hess III, Lexington; two special grandsons, Curt Fredin and David Moore both of Lexington; and 2 nephews and three nieces. Funeral services will be from the Graveside 2 p.m. Monday, January 23, at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Zehmer officiating. GUY, Walter Wayne, 54, of Marion, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a graduate of Marion Senior High School and an all-star high school football player. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by Marion Correctional Treatment Center. He was a staunch supporter of Marion Senior High School athletic and community recreation programs and a avid bowler. He enjoyed traveling and white water rafting. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Guy of Marion; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steven Wayne and Kaye Guy of Marion, Monty Dean Guy of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Heather Guy; two sisters, Mildred Kane of Galax, Bonnie Dolinger of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Marshall Guy, Ivan Guy, both of Marion, David Guy of Whittier, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Eggars officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. NOLEN, Georgie Lee Turner, 93, of Rockledge, Fla., died Tuesday, January 17, 1995, at Wuesthoff Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Nolen was born June 5, 1901, and raised Patrick County, Va. She was a former teacher, court reporter for the Circuit Court of Patrick County in Stuart, Va. and a reporter for the Stuart Enterprise. She married George M. Nolen in 1931 in Martinsville, Va., at the beginning of his 33 year Army career. She and her only child, Ann, traveled and lived with him in many places in America and in the Phillippines and Germany. When Colonel Nolen was overseas during WWII and the Korean War, Mrs. Nolen and Ann lived in Roanoke, Va. near her mother, Nancy Jane Turner, and sisters. Mrs. Nolen was active in the Parent Teacher's Association and was President of the Officer's Wives Club. Colonel and Mrs. Nolen retired to Sun City, Calif. While in Sun City they were active in the shuffleboard club and Mrs. Nolen wrote articles for the Sun City News. They lived in Sun City many years before moving to Melbourne, Fla. to be near their daughter. Mrs. Nolen resided at Adare Medical Center in Rockledge, Fla. where she participated in all the activities and the Resident's Council. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Turner Nolen Hughes and Edwin Lawson Hughes; grandson, Andrew George Hughes; two stepgrandsons, John L. Hughes and James P. Hughes; two sisters, Alma T. Parker, Roanoke, Va. and Cora T. Coffman, Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Edna N. Pulliam, Martinsville, Va. and Vivian N. Wood, Ridgeway, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Virgini a, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Kentucky, North Carolina; also four great-stepgrandchildren. There will be no local service. Services and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
