COAKE, R. Gerald, 42, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Friday, January 20, 1995, following an extended illness with Hodgkin's Disease. He was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Teresa Coake of Lawrenceville, Ga.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M. (Ella Mae) Coake of Dublin; sisters, Mrs. Brenda Bouschard Hughes and husband, Bob of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Beverly Rowland and husband, Bob of Bogota, Columbia; brother, Mr. Stacy Coake and wife, Tammy of Dublin; several other sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, niece and nephews. DULANEY, Scotty Lee, 23, of Riner, passed away Sunday morning, January 22, 1995 as a result of an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roncevert and Frances Bower. EANES, Samuel M., (``Buck""), 73, of Blackberry Rd., Rt. 7, Bassett, died Friday, January 20, 1995 at the VA Hospital in Salem. Eanes was born on April 29, 1921 in Mountain Valley to the late Samuel M. Eanes and the late Lula Woodall Eanes. He was the owner and operator of Eanes Furniture in Bassett from 1953 to 1988 when he retired. He was a member of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Bassett American Legion Post #11. Eanes was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Eanes; one sister, Sarah C. Williams; four brothers, Frank M. Eanes, James E. Eanes, H.D. Eanes, and G. C. Eanes. Surviving are one daughter, Laura Ann Eanes of the home; one son, James M. Eanes of Roanoke; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Collins Funeral Services Chap el in Bassett with the Rev. Dale Ashley officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. FLOWERS, Aurelia Chittum, 92, of Salem, passed away Saturday, January 21, 1995, in a local nursing home. She was the widow of Lewis H. Flowers and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and G. B. Barton, Salem, Betty and Ronald Warden, Rock, W. Va., Peggy and K. W. Lee, Rancho Cardova, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Joyce Flowers, Columbus, Ga., Charles W. and Barbara Flowers, Radcliff, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Ransome, Roanoke. HOPPER, Bertha Rodgers, 87, of Vinton died Saturday, January 21, 1995. She was a loving mother and wife, a charter member of the Vinton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer I. Hopper. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ted Smusz, Vinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Alvis and Norma Hopper, Gum Springs; a dear sister, Chasie P. Phillips, Southern Pines, N. C.; grandchildren, Randy Frazier, Kay Frazier, Kathy Wright, Sandy Patton, Marshall Frazier and Keith Frazier; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews in North Carolina. She was loved dearly by the husbands and wives of the grandchildren, and companion, Jean Clingenpeel. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 1995, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Moore and the Rev. James D. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Overlook Cemetery, Eden, N. C., at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. LEE, Thomas E., 92, of Clifton Forge, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, January 21, 1995 in Liberty House Nursing Home, Clifton Forge. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wilbert N. and Esther R. Lee both of Covington. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 25 at the Washington Street Baptist Church, Bedford. Interment will follow in Fairmont Cemetery, Bedford. LIEPINS, Olga Julianna, (``Mutti""), 97, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 21, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Peter Liepins and a daughter, Ingaborg Ilga Smith. She led her family from Riga Latvia during the Russian invasion of 1941 into Germany and later into England where she served the British Government as a translator. While in England, her daughter married a pilot, Lt. Col. Herman Lee Smith and then settled in Virginia. She was the devoted grandmother of Inga Lee Smith of Roanoke and Roger Lee Smith and wife, Michele of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Lee Smith and Casey Allen Smith. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 24. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 3 p.m. Monday where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

MABE, Harold Wright, 56, of Rt. 2, Wytheville, The Mabe Town Community, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was an employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for thirty-six years. He is survived by his wife, Leetha Marlar Mabe; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth H. and Diane Mabe, Roanoke, Daniel E. and Deanna Mabe of Wytheville; parents, W.S. ``Bunt"" and Edna Wright Mabe of Rt. 2, Wytheville; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Richard Hagee of Rt. 2, Wytheville; two stepgranddaughters, Rebecca and Jessica Gilbert, Roanoke; his mother-in-law, Louise H. Marlar of Rt. 2, Max Meadows. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Morris officiating. MITCHELL, Jack William, 85, of Bedford, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on September 15, 1909, a son of the late William Leftwich Mitchell and Icer Bandy Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jeter Mitchell and a daughter, Jackie Mitchell Nolen. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, and retired as Chief Warrant Officer of the Army National Guard 116th Infantry. He was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a daughter, Priscilla M. Gee, Ringgold; a brother, Robin L. Mitchell, Bedford; a sister, Elizabeth Mitchell Arthur, Bedford; a niece, Icer Litvin, Lexington; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery Tuesday, January 24, 1995, at 2 p.m. with the Rev . James Carroll officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #16. The family suggests those wishing to make memorials consider the Bedford Life Saving Crew. MOORE, Mary Elizabeth, 22, of Modesto, Calif., died Friday, January 20, 1995. She was formerly of Franklin County and has lived in Modesto since 1991 where she was a teacher at Pleasant Home Brethren School. Surviving are her husband, Richard Aaron Moore; her parents, Jimmie and Rebecca Boone, Rocky Mount; one brother, Donald W. Boone, Modesto, Calif.; three sisters, Deborah Brubaker, Callaway, Deanna Peters, Roanoke, Darlene Boone, Rocky Mount; grandmothers, Virginia Boone, Rocky Mount, Mary Angle, Flora, Ind. MORRIS, Winford Holmes, 84, of Pulaski, beloved husband of Alice Irene Rupe Morris, died Saturday, January 21, 1995, in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born August 9, 1910 in Pulaski, he was the son of the late, Bert Parson Morris and Trevie Pickerel Morris. He was employed by the Town of Pulaski for 29 years. He is survived by his wife, Alice Irene Rupe Morris. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the First Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Glenn Garner officiating. PAULEY, Jessie Lambert, 83, of Pinehurst, N.C., and formerly of Christiansburg, died Saturday, January 21, 1995 at her home in Pinehurst. Born in Grundy, she was a daughter of the late James Wilson Lambert and Gennie Bell Davis Lambert. She was a homemaker and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bluefield. She was a native of Virginia and resided in West Virginia for 60 years before moving to Pinehurst in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Pauley and a son, Donald L. Pauley. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. George (Harriet) Peraldo of Pinehurst, N.C.; three sisters, Helen L. James of Christiansburg, Ava L. Spence of Richmond, Kathryn L. Hash of Grundy; three grandchildren, Lisa P. Jackson of Vass, N.C., Kimberly P. Gilley of Pinehurst, N.C., G. H. ``Chip"" Peraldo of Greenville, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. PILCHER, Dr. Robert Mason Jr., of Richmond, died Saturday, January 21, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Bryant Pope Pilcher; two daughters, Kathryn Pilcher Davis, Sarah Pilcher Gentry, both of Richmond; son, Robert Mason Pilcher III of Rocky Mount, N.C.; father, Robert M. Pilcher Sr. of Roanoke; two sisters, Rebecca P. Welford of Richmond, Nancy P. Hagan of Roanoke; brother, John A. Pilcher of Roanoke; three grandchildren. Dr. Pilcher was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Mary Woodward Pilcher. Dr. Pilcher was an orthopedic surgeon and was a member of the West End Orthopedic Group . He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the Medical College of Virginia. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Omecron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia, Virginia Orthopedic Society, The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Country Club of Virginia. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Reveille United Methodist Church. RAMSEY, Herbert Penick, 72, of Vesuvius, formerly of Buena Vista, died Saturday, January 21, 1995 at his home. He was born September 30, 1922 in Rockbridge County, son of the late Edward Samuel Ramsey and Anna Vest Ramsey. He was self employed as an antique dealer for many years before his retirement. He was preceded in death by a brother, Pat Edward Ramsey Sr. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Herbert Dale and Ruby Shaw Ramsey of Vesuvius; a daughter, Janet Ramsey Walters of Vesuvius; a long time friend, Dewey Wiseman of Buena Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Dr. Wyatt Mayes officiating. The family will have a private interment. SPANGLER, Alice E., 89, of Salem, passed away Saturday, January 21, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Marvin Spangler and a son, Dewey Delmore Spangler. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Fran Spangler, Roanoke, Harvey and Martha Spangler, Roanoke, John and Geneva Spangler, Elliston, Joe and Irene Spangler, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bill Reynard, Salem; also a number of grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. STAFFORD, Irene Underwood, 87, of Pearisburg, died Sunday, January 22, 1995 at home. She was born March 25, 1907 at Poplar Hill the daughter of the late John Milton and Nellie Gay Combs Underwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Frank Stafford. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Gay and Carroll Davis, Pearisburg; a sister, Mrs. Lucille U. Vest, Dublin; one granddaughter, Mrs. Joyce Vass, Newport News; two granddaughters, Tami and Angie Vass; one great-grandson, Jarrod Vass. VAUGHAN, Martha F. (V.), 97, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 21, 1995. She was the widow of Victor L. Vaughan Sr. Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane V. and Paul L. Purdy of Salem; son, Victor L. Vaughan Jr. and special friend, Hedy Tibus of Newport News; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
