ROANOKE SYMPHONY MAKES SUCCESS OF NIGHT OF PREMIERES, MODERN MUSIC

It was a night of all-20th-century music and two premieres Monday night from the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra as Victoria Bond returned to the podium at the Roanoke Civic Center. And once again the message for those frightened by the words "modern music" was: It's safe to come back in the water.

The RSO gave the world premiere of Tina Davidson's "They Come Dancing," a hard-to-describe nut likable work inspired, according to the composer, by the words of the Lakota Sioux chief Balck Elk.
