PARRY MCCLUER HOLDS OFF BATH COUNTY RALLY

Parry McCluer held off Bath County's fourth quarter comeback bid to defeat the Chargers 57-55 in Pioneer District boys' action on Tuesday night.

Bath, facing a 39-31 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, battled back against the Fighting Blues. The Chargers pulled to within one, 56-55, with 22 seconds left behind Kris Phillips' two free throws. Parry McCluer forward David Coleman was intentionally fouled with little time remaining and hit one of two free throws to seal the victory. The Fighting Blues hit 13 of 16 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Carl Sanderson and Brandon Garrett led Parry McCluer (11-5 overall, 4-3 Pioneer District) with 13 points each. Mike McElroy tossed in 12 points and Nathan Floyd added 10.

Phillips led the Chargers (7-4, 2-2) with a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers. John Rogers also connected on four 3-pointers and finishing with 18 points.

RADFORD - Will Dodson made a key 3-pointer - one of five on the night - that broke a 58-58 tie and the Eagles prevailed over the Bobcats in a non-district game.

Radford (5-8) had a chance to win with 10 seconds remaining, but Tracy Bradshaw stole a pass and was fouled. Bradshaw, who had 15 points for the Eagles, missed on his free throw attempts, but Rocky Gap held on.

Dodson finished with 24 points and Erick Faulkner added 11 for the Eagles (7-5).

Chuck Hubbard paced the Bobcats with 16 points, while Foster Ridpath and Matt Linkous added 12 each.

Highland 68

MONTEREY - T.J. Honaker and Jacob Hull combined to sink four free throws in the last 35 seconds to lift the Rams past the Rockets for their first Pioneer District win since 1990.

Honaker hit three free throws and Hull added one for Highland, who made 18 of 28 free throws for the game, including their last five after Craig County had taken a 66-63 lead.

Rocky Waybright scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Rams (4-8, 1-5 Pioneer District). Honaker and Bryan Werner each added 13 and Ryan Harris had 12.

Robbie Huffman scored a game-high 25 points for Craig County (3-8, 1-4), which had never lost to Highland. Jamie Fisher, who added 14.

FLOYD - Wes Self and Chad Shaffner combined to score 20 of Grayson County's 24 fourth-quarter points as the Blue Devils held on to defeat the Buffaloes in a non-district game.

Self finished with 15 points and Shaffner had 12 after scoring just two in the first three quarters. Grayson County (11-2) was led by 6-7 center Bryan Boyer, who had 22.

The Buffaloes (8-4), who were down by six at halftime, rallied behind Brian Harman, who scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half. Floyd County also got 15 points from Jason Dalton.

GLADE SPRING - The Rebels outscored the Indians 33-25 in the first half en route to a Hogoheegee District win.

Eric Reynolds led PH-Glade Spring with 16 points and Chris Castle added 14.

Steven May led Rural Retreat with a team-high 12 points.

PEARISBURG - Anthony Myers tied a school record for assists in a game and brother Aaron scored 16 points as Giles rolled past Bland in a non-district game.

Anthony Myers, who scored eight points, dished out 12 assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Bland (5-6) was plagued by numerous turnovers.

The Spartans (7-5) got 16 points from Josh Stephens and 12 from Jon King, who also had nine rebounds.

Bland was led by Wesley Strock, who scored 11 points, and Andy Selfe, who added 10.

Gateway Christian 66

Ballard Christian, W.Va. 57

BALLARD, W.Va.- Ryan Gordon scored 19 points and Aaron Meadows added 18 as the Crusaders rolled past Ballard Christian in a non-district game.

Jonathan Spencer led Ballard (1-12) with a game-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers, and Jody Lee added 15.

Jay Perfater had 15 points for Gateway Christian (7-5).

WYTHEVILLE - The Maroons outscored the Cavaliers 33-5 in the first quarter en route to a Hogoheegee District win.

Aaron Andrews led George Wythe (10-4) with 13 points as all 13 Maroons scored.

Travis Owens scored a team-high 12 for Holston (4-8).
