PEMBROKE GETS NEW RADAR UNIT

The Pembroke Police Department has bought a new radar unit with a $1,500 grant from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The department applied for the money in December because it needed to replace the outdated unit it was using.

The new radar unit will allow the department to increase radar surveillance along U.S. 460 particularly during peak traffic periods. The radar will also be used throughout town and during holidays and special events.

The radar will assist in slowing traffic speeds, which will help in reducing accidents attributed to speeding, Police Chief Jerry R. Gautier said in a news release.
