TIMBERLAKE EDGES ROANOKE CATHOLIC

Paul Fitzgerald's layup with four seconds remaining lifted Timberlake Christian to a 65-63 victory over Roanoke Catholic in a Virginia Independent Conference boys' game Tuesday.

The Celtics (4-11 overall, 3-5 VIC) led by four points with 58 seconds left, but Timberlake's Jon Phillips sank four free throws in the final minute to tie the score before Fitzgerald hit the game-winner.

Fitzgerald finished with 11 points and James Napier added 16 for Timberlake Christian (12-6, 4-5), which made 12 of 13 free throws. Phillips, who scored a game-high 25 points, was 10-of-10 from the line.

Roanoke Catholic was led by Tony Joyce, who scored 17 to pace four players in double figures. Rod Tasco added 15, and Brendan McCarthy and T.L. Bratton had 13 and 12, respectively.

MONTEREY - T.J. Honaker and Jacob Hull combined to sink four free throws in the last 35 seconds to lift the Rams past the Rockets for their first Pioneer District win since 1990.

Honaker hit three free throws and Hull added one for Highland, who made 18 of 28 free throws for the game, including their last five after Craig County had taken a 66-63 lead.

Rocky Waybright scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Rams (4-8, 1-5 Pioneer District). Honaker and Bryan Werner each added 13 and Ryan Harris had 12.

Robbie Huffman scored a game-high 25 points for Craig County (3-8, 1-4), which had never lost to Highland. Jamie Fisher, who added 14.

Carlisle 23

The Celtics converted 31 turnovers by the Chiefs and kept Carlisle winless in the Blue Ridge Conference.

In addition to Carlisle's turnovers, Roanoke Catholic stole the ball 26 times. Abby Dickson led the Celtics (9-6, 8-2 Blue Ridge) with 20 points, five steals and six rebounds. Teresa Monsour added 12 points and five assists.

Carlisle (0-11, 0-9) shot 26 percent from the floor, compared to the Celtics' 46 percent. Brooke Holyfield led the Cheifs with 15 points.

LYNCHBURG - Kristen England scored a game-high 16 points as the Gaels rolled to a Blue Ridge Conference victory over the Raiders.

England scored 12 of her points in the first half as Holy Cross (6-5, 5-5 Blue Ridge) opened up a 27-10 halftime lead. Lauren Tucker added 10 for Holy Cross.

North Cross (1-11) was led by Kathryn Anthony, who scored 14, and Emily Cook, who had 13.
