Rebecca Orr Memorial Concert

BLACKSBURG - The 12th annual Rebecca Orr Memorial Benefit Concert will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in Virginia Tech's Squires Recital Salon. The concert features performances by guest artists and popular local musicians.

David Ehrlich, first violinist for the Audubon Quartet and a native of Israel, and his wife, Teresa Ehrlich, pianist for the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, will perform, Other artists include pianist Mary Louise Hallauer of Virginia Tech's music faculty, clarinetist Jill Coggiola and pianist Caryl Conger of Radford University's faculty, mezzo-soprano Clarity James of Radford University's music faculty and pianist Lynne Mackey of Bluefield College.

International artists performing are pianist Helen Tung from Taiwan, a graduate of the Toho School of Music in Japan, the Vienna Hochschule fur Musik and Virginia Tech; Sonya Ho from Hong Kong, a graduate of Radford University; and pianist Yelena Balabanova, a graduate of the Gnessin Institute for Music in Moscow.

The musicians will play a variety of works by classical and contemporary composers. Tickets will be available at the door Friday evening. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and $10 for families.

The annual concert is sponsored by the Highlands chapter of the Virginia Music Teachers Association. Proceeds from ticket sales support the chapter's scholarship and educational fund. The fund provides scholarships for music students and supports educational activities in the community.

Teen forum planned in Floyd

FLOYD - "The Teen Years, Then and Now" is the theme of an open community forum for youth and adults Feb. 11, 7 p.m., in the Floyd County High School cafeteria. This teen-adult dialogue night is a chance for youth and adults to gather and talk about how adults spent their teenaged years and how today's youths feel about their lives.
