NFL, MURDOCH UNVEIL WORLD LEAGUE PLANS

Celebrating its return with the first fashion show in Super Bowl history, the World League of American Football announced details of its 1995 season Thursday.

The league, which operated in 1991 and 1992 with franchises in the United States and Europe, comes back as a joint venture of the NFL and its newest broadcasting partner, Rupert Murdoch's Fox Inc.-News Corp., with six franchises - all overseas.

``Our current plan is for a European product with six teams,'' said Neil Austrian, president of the NFL. ``At some point, we'll step back and re-think where else to go.''

Those possibilities include Mexico and South America, but not, at least for the time being, the United States.

The teams, each outfitted in uniforms featuring colorful logos and designs that were unveiled Thursday, are the Amsterdam Admirals, Barcelona Dragons, Frankfurt Galaxy, London Monarchs, Rhein Fire - based in Dusseldorf - and Scottish Claymores, based in Edinburgh.

They will play 10-game schedules beginning April 8 with 32-player rosters

The league will operate with a salary scale that pays quarterbacks $20,000, other players $15,000, kickers and punters $10,000 and inactive players $5,000.
