KING FRIEND: AFFAIR CLAIM 'BALD-FACED LIE'

Former Kentucky state Sen. Georgia Powers is lying about having an affair with Martin Luther King Jr., one of King's associates charged Thursday.

``I hope God will forgive her,'' said the Rev. Hosea Williams, accusing Powers of seeking prestige and money.

Powers' new autobiography, ``I Shared the Dream,'' claims she and King had a year-long affair and that she was with him in his Memphis hotel room the night before his assassination.

``I'm willing and ready to stake my life that Ms. Powers is telling a bald-faced lie,'' Williams said at a news conference.

Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, whom Powers says knew of her relationship with King, said he had no recollection of it.
