NEW NAME NOT LIKELY TO STICK

Some rather unstatesmanlike words in an innocuous resolution to study transportation have left a bill writer in hot water and some lawmakers embarrassed.

Sen. Charles Waddell, D-Loudoun County, proposed a study committee on auxiliary transportation services that included senators appointed by the chamber's Committee on Privileges and Elections. Instead, because of a prank or snafu, the resolution twisted the panel into the committee on ``Pilferage and Erections.''

When the General Assembly's Department of Legislative Services learned of what happened, Senate pages were sent scurrying around the Capitol to replace the drafts.

Alan Wambold, who has worked in the department for 20 years, has been disciplined. He has apologized to Waddell.
