LOCAL TEAMS CLAIM TITLES IN SOCCER

The Roanoke Stars under-10 soccer team won its division at the Twin City Soccer Unlimited Tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sunday.

The Stars beat the Piedmont Association - a team from North Carolina - 6-0 in the championship game after beating the New River Rangers 8-1 in the semifinals.

The Stars were led by Justin Krehbiel, who scored 17 of the team's 33 goals in the tournament. Goalkeepers Luke HellKamp and Will Ross combined to give up just three goals in the tournament as the team won four games. The team is coached by Philip Moore.

The Roanoke Star under-17 white team defeated Kernersville, N.C., 4-2 on Sunday in the championship of the Soccer Unlimited Indoor Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Roanoke was 4-1-1 in the two-day tournament.
