Scholars and playwrights from around the country will focus on using theater in the classroom for teaching purposes and staging plays within the academic context.
The program will consist of workshops, readings of more than 20 scholarly papers, and a keynote address, ``Theater as Basic Communication: The Classroom as Stage,'' delivered by Anne Paolucci.
Paolucci, department chair and professor of English at St. John's University, will speak Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Leyburn Library's Northern Auditorium.
A German cabaret performance at 7 p.m. in the Lenfest Center's Johnson Theater will highlight Saturday evening, as well as the Shenandoah Shakespeare Express' performance of a scene from ``Anthony and Cleopatra'' at 8:15 p.m. in the Johnson Theater.
On Sunday, a series of papers under the heading,``Text Versus Performance: Writing and Staging Original Plays in the Academe,'' will be presented from 8:30-11 a.m. in Roomd 109 of the University Center.
